PoweringTheCloud2013
Also this year I’m attending at the Powering the Cloud event (this was the report of past event). I’ve already written about the reasons to attend at this event, now let’s describe how (and if) were valuable.

The agenda is almost dense and structured in different paths and topics. There isn’t a real general session, so you can choose what you prefer and build your personal agenda. Of course keynotes still exists, but are just in a dedicated track.

But I’ve also already had some scheduled meetings: on the first day with SNIA, DotHill, SpectraLogic. So I’ve not got enough time to follow enought sessions and compare if the format is better compared past year.

In the speakers list, thisyear I found more virtualization specialist (including Darren Woollard and Bas Raayman), and I see this as a good sign in order to have more technical presentations. Or maybe the way to build a community track?

The even was well organized (some minor aspects could be still improved) and the press room (I was invited as a “press analyst”) is perfect exactly like the previous year. And yesterday afternoon there was a press conference really useful. And there was, in the evening, a StorageBeers, as usual.

Also it contain several other events (Conference Partner Sessions), like SNIA training. I’ve decided to follow the Cloud Camp Frankfurt (between 16:00 and 20:00).

CloudCamp is an unconference where early adopters (including end users, IT professionals and vendors) of Cloud Computing technologies exchange ideas. With the rapid change occurring in the industry, this was a good opportunity to share experiences, challenges, solutions and doubts. Speakers list was composed by:

  • Reuven Cohen, Chief Cloud Advocate Citrix, Co-Founder CloudCamp (@rUv)
  • Chris Boos, CEO arago AG (@boosc)
  • René Buest, Analyst New Age Disruption, Analyst GigaOM Research (@ReneBuest)
  • Mark Masterson, Troublemaker CSC Financial Services EMEA (@mastermark)
  • Hendrik Andreas Reese, TÜV Rheinland i-sec GmbH
  • Moderation: Roland Judas, Technical Evangelist arago AG (@rolandjudas)

Finally the dinner event will celebrate the 10 years of SNW Europe and the 5th years of Datacenter Technologies and Virtualization World.
