During the recent VMworld Europe, I’ve got the opportunity to talk with Gregg Holzrichter, Vice President of Marketing of Atlantis Computing about their virtualization products. I’ve meet them during the VMworld EU 2013 and also during the last Virtualization Field Day.

Atlantis Computing, with the headquarter in California (Mountain View) and an office also in EMEA (London), was the winner of “Best of VMworld 2012″ and “Best of Citrix Synergy 2012″ awards, addresses the challenges of storage-intensive virtualized and cloud applications: performance, cost and the ability to scale-out on demand.

Their solutions are targeted for the VDI and presentation virtualization area by providing a solution to accelerate the storage and optimize the related accesses.

We have talk about the recent news and partnership.

Atlantis-LogoStarting from the new Atlantis Compunting identity (see this post) that now it’s a provider of Software-Defined Storage and also the company log has been changed (compare to the previous one).

Of course Atlantis USX 2.0 is the core product and around this product there are several alliances with hardware vendor like IBM or Dell (with Dell it’s actually and OEM partnership but there isn’t yet a product that include both technologies).

The IBM alliance was more historical and has started on the ILIO product (see this post) and now has been improved with an IBM and Atlantis flash system that could be a blade or rack server with:

  • local flash flash DIMM (IBM eXFlash)
  • minimum 3 servers (for start with the right reliability)
  • expandeble with local disks
  • 3.3 M IOPS with 3 hosts

About the future versions and future support for more hypervisors, the next one will probably be Citrix XenServer (ILIO was initially targeted for XenApp) and only after Q1 2015 we will se probably see an Hyper-V support.
