The Network Certified Implementation Expert (VCIX-NV) certification was something different compare to other “advanced” level certifications in other VMware paths: only a lab based exam (the deploy, configuration and manage part) and you have done!

Other VCIX paths require both the admin (now simple called deploy, but it’s not only deploy related) and the design exam, and recently both intermediate exam has been called again VCAP exam (see this post).

But now, with the detail about the VCIX6-NV (yes… also versioning is back again) something has changed and the NSX path will become the same as other paths.

As you can notice now VCIX6-NV will require both VCAP6-NV design and deploy exam!

If you are currently a VCIX-NV you have to pass the VCAP6-NV design exam (when will be available) in order to become a VCIX6-NV. So more effor and, in my opinion, also more confusion because we got some certification without a version and potentially without any values (it’s not only VCIX-NV, but also VCP-Cloud, for example).

To be honest, on the web site it’s written: if you hold a VCIX-NV certification, earn either VCAP6-NV Design or VCAP6-NV Deploy certification. That it’s a non-sense, because the Deploy exam will be probably similar to the “VCIX-NX”, just updated to latest NSX for vSphere version.

Note: Until the VCAP6-NV Design exam is released, that requirement will be waived for earning VCIX6-NV certification.

The final certification roadmap will be for sure more clear and linear (and the same for each path), but the transition will be not so good.

Upgrade path to VCDX6-NV (if there will be) are not yet published. But I guess that actually VCDX-NV are already also VCDX6-NV.
