One of the new products announced during the last Veeam event was the Veeam Backup  for Microsoft Office 365, an interesting solution to protect your data if you are using this kind of public cloud service. The product is not yet available in GA, but you can download and test the beta version by simple registering at this page.

Although Linux is used in several storage solutions, the native filesystems lack of modern features like deduplication or compression (compression extented attribute is present from some decade, but it’s implementions is still limited or missing). Most storage solutions use other filesystem (like ZFS), or also other operating systems: FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenSolaris branches, or also Windows Server (like DataCore). Now Permabit Technology Corporation announced the availability of its Albireo Virtual Data Optimizer (VDO) for Canonical’s Ubuntu Server.

On November 2015, Hewlett Packard Enterprise has been announced as a spin-off of Hewlett-Packard Company: an enterprise technology leader with $53 billion in annual revenue, a very comprehensive product portfolio in the industry and a unique vision for the future of technology and its benefits for enterprise customers. Now Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced plans to spin off and merge its non-core software assets with Micro Focus, a global enterprise software company.

Finally the Dell – EMC fusion has started and, as announced on May 2016, the new big company will be called Dell Technologies and will include all those companies: Dell, the new DellEMC, Pivotal, RSA, SecureWorks, VirtuStream, VMware. As also, as announced some months ago, Dell Software will not be part anymore of this big picture.

The US edition of VMworld 2016 is finally over (and the location and venue are been announced for next year: August 27 – August 31 still at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Convention Center). But which news are coming from this event? This year, I’ve not attend at the US edition, but I will go, as usual, at the European one.
