The 13rd edition of Tech Field Day (#TFD13) will be in Austin the first week of February (February 1–3, 2017). Note that the TFD event format replaced the Virtualization Field Day (VFD) event format more than one year ago (maybe because the buzzword virtualization is no more attractive). But to be honest first editions of VFD where just called Tech Field Day, so it’s just a return to the origin. As written in a previous post the agenda is very rich with several companies and sessions in those three days:
Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 3.4 (announced few weeks ago) helps application development and IT operations teams create and deploy apps with the speed and consistency that business demands. It includes Docker, Kubernetes 1.4, Project Atomic, OpenShift Origin, and of course Red Hat Enterprise Linux. This new release provides significant enhancements to OpenShift in order to lower the barrier of adoption of containers in the enterprise with simplified storage provisioning, enhanced multi-tenant capabilities and new reference architectures in hybrid cloud environments.

During our announcement on Aug. 23, one of the announced changes is that new versions of Veeam Endpoint Backup which will be renamed Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. Veeam Agent for Linux 1.0 was already available, and now Veeam Agent for Windows is in public beta. This next version of Veeam Endpoint Backup will expand on the current free offering by providing a more robust and enhanced business feature set by adding two new paid editions but also with a FREE offering.

There is a big new in data protection and business continuity market: StorageCraft Technology Corporation and Exablox Corporation joined forces to completely focus on helping businesses analyse, protect, and store their data. The new entity is the first company to bring together a new approach that recognizes the disappearing lines between primary and secondary storage as well as between data availability and data protection. A new big player will appear and will be interesting see how it will be positioned compared to other products and considering existing OEM and Technological partnership from both companies.
Finally Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 1 is now available and will add full VMware vSphere 6.5 support (version 9.5 was already supporting Windows Server 2016 and new Hyper-V version). Be sure to have version 18.104.22.1680, 22.214.171.1241 or 126.96.36.1992 before upgrade. After upgrading, your build will be version 188.8.131.523.
Atlantis Community Experts (ACE) is the way that Atlantis Computing recognizes expert members of the virtualization community and their passion for technology and transformative approaches to data center designs. Basically is the “vExpert” or “MVP” award from Atlantis.
