Reading Time: 3 minutes Scale Computing is an alternative hyperconverged solution that cover the entire stack: from the hardware, to the hypervisor and storage, to the management part. Their HC3 platform is an hyperconverged solution that can be used for small- and medium-sized businesses but also in some enterprise departments with a simple (and different) approach to virtualization and storage. Their appliances was sized to a have good compromize between computing and storage resource, but also to permit a good scalability in the datacenter. For this reason thei were all 1U size, but for this reason limited in the maximum […]

Reading Time: 3 minutes WekaIO is a new startup (just emerged from stealth mode) with the goal to improves IT agility by delivering software-centric data storage solutions that unlock the true promise of the cloud. WekaIO has its headquarters located in San Jose, California, but the most of its engineers are in Tel Aviv, Israel. WekaIO Matrix software is ideally suited for performance intensive workloads such as Web 2.0 application serving, financial modeling, life sciences research, media rendering, Big Data analytics, log management and government or university research.

Reading Time: 3 minutes The new VMware Virtual SAN (or vSAN) 6.6 adds several enchaments and new features as described in the announce notes. Most of those aspects are related to data and cluster resiliency (as expected by a storage solution), including:

Reading Time: 4 minutes Excelero, a new reality in software-defined block storage, is launching out of stealth and is announcing version 1.1 of its NVMesh® Server SAN software for exceptional Flash performance for web and enterprise applications at any scale. Founded in 2014 by a team of storage veterans (included Fusion-io’s founder David Flynn) and inspired by the Tech Giants’ shared-nothing architectures for web-scale applications, the company has designed a Software-Defined Block Storage solution that meets performance and scalability requirements of the largest web-scale and enterprise applications based on the model of hardware-based hyperscale IT architectures of technology giants like Facebook, […]

Reading Time: 4 minutes In the previous post, I’ve described how using the vCenter plugin to deploy the couple of StorMagic VSA. It’s just one way and maybe not the fastest way (automation in this case can be the best). But it’s one of the simplest way. After this step you have the VSA ready with they storage resources and you have to build a shared datastore by making a synchronous of two local resources. Easy to say, lot of step di build this (also because you have to mount the datastore in the hosts).

Reading Time: 5 minutes StorMagic SvSAN is an interesting hyperconverged solution that converts internal disk, flash and memory of two or more servers into a robust, shared-storage appliance. SvSAN delivers highly-available converged compute and storage while requiring the fewest components; 2 light-weight servers and no physical SAN. For this reason it’s a valuable product for ROBO (Remote Office  / Branch Office) scenario where a 2 nodes infrastructure could be enough. But one interesting aspect is related to manageability and simplicity: you can deploy and manage your infrastructure directly from the vCenter Web Client (until vSphere version 6.0 you can […]

Reading Time: 4 minutes During the last Tech Field Day Extra at VMworld EU 2016 (where I was invited as a delegate) I’ve got the opportunity to learn the latest news from Nimble Storage. Rich Fenton (UK&I Systems Engineering Manager) and Nick Dyer (Senior Systems Engineer) gave us a great overview of the technology, but also some news and future trends idea.
