Don’t miss VeeamON 2017 event

Next VeeamON conference is approaching fast: it will take place at Ernest N. Morial Convention Center at New Orleans (Louisiana) during May, 16-18 2017.

After the first edition (in 2014) and the second (in 2015), after one year with only live or local events (like VeeamON Tour), this will be the third big own event from Veeam (and it’s ecosystem). An important milestone for a company that was founded in 2006 and now one of biggest in its field (and still a good example on how the virtualization ecosystem can grow using also the ecosystem itself).

VeeamON will be a big event (and potentially one of the “biggest”) not only about Veeam and their products, but on the entire availability and data protection area with more than 3,000 peers, thought leaders, subject matter experts and IT professionals to discuss the latest in data center modernization using virtualization, storage and cloud technologies.

Possible replacement for PernixData FVP

After the acquisition of PernixData by Nutanix (six months ago) the future of Pernix products is not clear at all. Actually is not possible buy neither FVP or Architect anymore, the PernixPro program has been closed (or “merged” into the Nutanix NTC) and no new version is available to support VMware vSphere 6.5. See Some clarifications on PernixData FVP to get the answer of some possible concerns.

Existing support contract are still honored, support and download pages are still working…

Citrix acquires Unidesk

To make it simpler and easier for partners and customers to securely deploy and manage apps and desktops through XenApp and XenDesktop, Citrix announced the acquisition of Unidesk, the inventor of the groundbreaking Windows application packaging and management technology known as layering.

Unidesk offers full-stack layering technology, which enhances compatibility by layering the entire Windows workspace as modular virtual disks, including the Windows operating system itself (OS layer), apps (app layers), and a writable persistent layer that captures all user settings, apps, and data. NMI purple diagnostic screen on HP ESXi hosts

Purple screen of the death are the “blue” screen of VMware ESXi when something really wrong happen, usually at hardware level. They are not so common, unless you stay in the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) and have reliable hardware.

One strange issue that I’ve got recently was on HP server with ESXi 6.0 with this kind of purple screen:

VMware vSphere 6.5 – Upgrade or not upgrade?

Now that the new VMware vSphere 6.5 is in GA, most people are starting considering to upgrade (or start from scratch) with this version, instead of vSphere 6.0 (or also 5.5).

But please consider this product like a major release, there are several changes, but also new features and scalability properties that make interesting for each new environment, but also for existing customers (with an active subscription if you have a 5.5 version, so that you can also upgrade your 5.x license keys).

But like each new version you have to make some consideration first and especially before starting the upgrade procedure, so be sure to start from the vSphere Upgrade Center, the VMware Product Interoperability Matrix, the VMware Compatibility Guide, but also read the following notes.

#NutanixNTC 2017 – Nutanix Technology Champion

Nutanix has announced the new list of Nutanix Tech Champions (NTC) 2017.

NTC is a community awards similar to others programs like VMware vExpert, Microsoft MVP, Cisco Champions, EMC Elect, … rewarding members of the community on their efforts in sharing their knowledge and enabling fellow community members.

The Nutanix Technology Champion program spans the globe and is comprised of IT professionals from every cloud, application group, and technology. They are committed to news ways of thinking that will power the next generation of enterprise computing.

This year, after the PernixData acquisition, this list include also some people from the PernixPro program (that has been closed) that have apply to the NTC program.
