Starting from April, 23 is possible vote for your prefered VMworld sessions, choosing what you would like to ear or which people you want to see.

Voting will close on Monday, May 6th at 5:00pm PDT.   During this time, all complete session proposals will be voted on by VMware Content Committee and the Public community (you need a VMworld account in order to give your vote). I’m quite sure that previous year there where two distinct voting sessions, so this could be a first news.

The second news, according with this interesting post (By the Numbers – VMworld 2013 Session Voting) is that this year there are 954 proposal. Last year there were 1222 (that is a drop of 28%). Still a lot compared to the available slots… but more opportunity to be accepted.

The third news is that this year there are several proposal from the VMUG.IT people, for a complete list see this post: VMworld 2013 Call For Papers: vote for VMUG IT!

It’s not clear if and how those votes could influence the choice of the final sessions (see also this post: the process is not transparent), probably it’s more important the name of the speaker and his (VMworld) experience (but in this way you cut of new people)… Also we don’t know if VMware employees are facilitated compared to partners employees.

IMHO I think that also the way to propose the sessions could be changed… actually is more important write it well, but the real value that must be analyzed is explain well (otherwise you can try to use good buzzword and maybe the sessions sounds cool)… so why not make a (short) video (or simple an audio) to present your session? Of course it takes more time both for the candidate and for who is voting, but you can also value the speaker ability.

Anyway I don’t want to use any Jedi Mental Trick to say “vote this” or “don’t vote”… Just vote for what you really like to see at VMworld. And for speaker that will be selected, please try to be both in topic and (expecially) compliant with the declared level. In previous editions I’ve see (some) session declared as technical that was simple sales and some advanced technical that was for the 90% of the time a technical simple introduction.

Note that for the end users there are (and there were) some co-spekaer opportunity. This one probably is expired but speak with your vendors, usually they are looking at some interesting users cases.

Acceptance notifications will be sent out on June 4 and on June 6 is planned the Content Catalog.
