On November 2015, Hewlett Packard Enterprise has been announced as a spin-off of Hewlett-Packard Company: an enterprise technology leader with $53 billion in annual revenue, a very comprehensive product portfolio in the industry and a unique vision for the future of technology and its benefits for enterprise customers.

Now Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced plans to spin off and merge its non-core software assets with Micro Focus, a global enterprise software company.

The combination of these software assets – which includes HPE’s Application Delivery Management, Big Data, Enterprise Security, Information Management & Governance, and IT Operations Management businesses – and Micro Focus’s highly complementary portfolio will create one of the world’s largest pure-play software companies. The new company will have the global footprint, agility and financial strength to drive software innovation across a comprehensive array of products.

HP Data Protector, an enterprise backup solution, will also be involved, but this could be a smart move, considering the strong (and long) partnership between HPE and Veeam.

This move seems very similar to the one from Dell with Dell Software: is just a way to gain cash for new acquisition, or is really a strategical move to focus HPE on some profitable assetts?
