NAKIVO Backup and Replication has a scalable architecture, that consists in some components (Director, Transporter and Backup Repository), and could be installed in several different way: including on Linux server and abbedded in NAS appliances.

Until today there was only an official integrations with Synology and WD NAS, but potentially, using the Linux installer, you can install the transport role also on other Linux x86 based NAS.

Now NAKIVO Backup & Replication v7 is available in QNAP App Center, and can be installed on x86-based QNAP NAS servers.

Why Use QNAP NAS as a VM Backup Appliance?

Increase VM Backup Speed

When installed on a QNAP NAS, NAKIVO Backup & Replication v7 can write data directly to NAS disks, bypassing network protocols (such as CIFS or NFS) and increasing VM backup speed by up to 1.9X!

Offload Virtualized Environment

By installing NAKIVO Backup & Replication v7 on QNAP NAS, you offload your VMware or Hyper-V infrastructure and use the CPU and RAM available in QNAP NAS to perform all data protection and recovery tasks.

Ensure Recoverability

If your backup software runs in a VM, chances are that any incident in the virtualized environment will render your backup software unusable. By separating backup software from the virtualized environment you ensure that you can recover your data even if some of your VMware or Hyper-V servers are down.

Consolidate Data Protection

By installing NAKIVO Backup & Replication on QNAP NAS, you create an all-in-one, high-performance VM backup appliance that combines backup software, hardware, storage, and data deduplication in a single device that is fast to deploy and easy to manage.

Save Budget

NAKIVO Backup & Replication combines affordable pricing that starts at $199/socket with minimal system requirements: the product can even be installed on entry level QNAP NAS, such as TS-451U. When it comes to enterprise-level data protection, the combination of NAKIVO Backup & Replication and QNAP NAS is at least 5X less expensive than purpose-built backup appliances with similar hardware and software characteristics.

One interesting use case of this edition is the Remote Office / Branch Office (ROBO) scenario, that is usually challenging due to some constraints (like limited budget, lack of local IT people, limited IT resources and stuff, …) and some possible risks (see also Using NAKIVO in ROBO scenarios).
