The US edition of VMworld 2017 is finally over and maybe you want to know what’s new (or if there are something news compared to previous year). Of course there are.

Again Michael Dell was present during the keynote of the second day, side to side with Pat Gelsinger: Dell Technologies has becoming more and more present, although VMware seems to have still a good independence.

Both general sessions are available on demand.

General Session Day 1: Monday, August 28 – Pat Gelsinger and Sanjay Poonen as they explore the key pillars responsible for reshaping industries – cloud, mobility, networking and security — and hear from customers who are succeeding in their own transformation journeys.

General Session Day 2: Tuesday, August 29 – Pat Gelsinger and Michael Dell answer top questions, we announce the new Pivotal Container Service (PKS) offering, and we reveal how a company can transform by embracing VMware, partner and open-source technologies.

Some new products and new versions of existing products have been announced:

  • VMware and AWS: finally VMware announce Initial Availability of VMware Cloud on AWS. You will need vSphere 6.5U1 to use it, but at the beginning will be limited only to some US region. You can start to use AWS with a minimum of 4 hosts, and maximum of 16 hosts, which are all controlled with a single instance of vCenter server.
  • VMware vSphere Scale-Out Edition: is just vSphere, but for deployments large enough to consider themselves high-performance computing.
  • AppDefense:  another layer of security for applications running on virtualized or cloud environments. It monitors and profiles applications, detects anomalies in a learned behavior, and can automatically respond to attacks against those applications.
  • VMware Integrated OpenStack 4.0 and vRealize Network Insight (vRNI) 3.5
  • Availability of VMware Cloud Services (Discovery, Cost Insight, Network Insight, AppDefense, NSX Cloud, Wavefront)
  • Pivotal Container Service (PKS):  containers orchestration solution with built-in high-availability, monitoring, automated health checks and all the other little nuances required to keep an app operational in a production environment. Apps are cross-compatible between PKS and Google Container Engine (GKE).
