Scality has announced the RING 7.4 Long Term Support (LTS) release. This release streamlines IT operations with major advancements in ease-of-deployment and operations for scale-out file and object storage and new 3-server configurations for HPE Apollo server platforms for a smaller, more affordable entry-point to scale-out software-defined storage.

Scality RING is software that turns any standard x86 servers into web-scale storage. Scality RING stores data without limits with incredible efficiency and 100% reliability, guaranteed—all while reducing costs by as much as 90% over legacy systems.

Scality chose operational ease as a focus for version 7.4 of the RING, starting with development of an easy-to-use window into monitoring and management of servers via its new RING Supervisor UI, a comprehensive, unified portal for all aspects of management and monitoring of the RING’s native AWS S3 and file (NFS, SMB) storage interfaces. And, to enhance deployment ease, Scality RING 7.4 introduces the unified Installer, which enables customers to deploy the RING easily in under an hour on any of 45 reference platform architectures, including the new 3-server entry point configurations on HPE Apollo 4200/4510 server platforms.

RING 7.4 brings a new “at-a-glance” dashboard with REST API, unified trending and forecasting metrics and KPIs, monitoring, alerts, server and disk monitoring for HPE Apollo server platforms and easy point-and-click provisioning of S3 and file system services.  And, the UI now accommodates private labelling so partners and cloud providers can brand their Scality RING  solutions. That, along with a new Service Provider portal that provides secure management of the RING’s integrated AWS-compatible Identity and Access Management (IAM) multi-tenancy services, including provisioning of new Accounts, Users, Groups and Policies, plus an S3 browser that provides integrated management of S3 Buckets and Object data, enhances its features for cloud providers.

Scality expanded its install base in 2017 with 51 new enterprise customers from around the world, in addition to expanding the Scality RING storage footprint for many in its petabyte-scale customer base, the largest of which is over 100 petabytes. Some new customer highlights include:

  1. Lancaster General Health, University of Pennsylvania’s (Penn Medicine)
  2. SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Français), a global leader in passenger and freight transport services
  3. Endemol Shine in Australia, part of the global media powerhouse, Endemol Shine Group
  4. Bezeq International, Israel’s leading internet and international telecommunications services provider
  5. CLS Groupe (Collecte Localisation Satellites), operator of high-value satellite systems in Europe
  6. Transport Systems Catapult, a leader in transportation innovation through data sharing in the U.K.

Scality achieved its best quarter in company history, shipping over 100 petabytes of usable storage that brought 20 new petabyte-scale customers in Q4 alone, extending its market reach by deepening its partnerships with HPE, Cisco and leading channel partners. This year of benchmark success for the software-defined storage vendor also saw the growth of its engineering team to more than 85 talented individuals, highly-acclaimed product releases of Scality RING7 and the Zenko Multi-Cloud controller, strong industry recognition from leading analyst firms, including  IDC and Gartner, who placed Scality as a leader in the 2017 Magic Quadrant for Distributed File Systems and Object Storage, the only independent company to be named in the Leaders’ quadrant. Scality also scored second across every use case in Gartner’s Critical Capabilities for Object Storage published on January 25, 2018. Furthermore, the company invested in a new headquarters in San Francisco, moved to larger offices in Tokyo and London, and opened new offices in Germany and Australia.
