Reading Time: 2 minutes Funny but related to VMware vSphere 6.5 there aren’t much books and there is nothing specific from VMware Press. There is good documentation from VMware with the new site well structured and very clean (https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/index.html), as usual, there are a lot of good KB article, some online resources, but no official books.

Now Rubrik has announced the general availability of Radar, the latest application built on the Polaris SaaS platform. Reading Time: 3 minutes Veeam Software has finally announced the availability of the new Veeam Availability for Nutanix AHV, a “Backup & Replication” version for Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV). In this way Veeam extend the supported (on-prem) hypervisors to the three majors: VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V and Nutanix AHV. Considering that also Nutanix it’s multi-hypervisors, the combination of Veeam and Nutanix can give the best. Still there isn’t a native solution for other KVM based hypervisors, but those workloads can be protected with the Veeam Agents.

Reading Time: 3 minutes Finally, after a long beta period, there is the new version of Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 with support both for SharePoint and OneDrive (Business). Veeam has introduced Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 in November 2016, and it became a great success because it’s simple, light, fast to deploy and the restore process remain quite the same of Veeam Backup & Replication with the powerful granular restore.

Reading Time: 2 minutes Seven years ago I’ve started writing this blog and vInfrastructure starts its life (see the first official post: Blog goes live), initially with a different domain name, but has rapidly changed with the final one (shorted and probably simpler). In those years, I’ve written wrote about all the vSphere 5.x editions (starting with the first 5.0 announce), all the vSphere 6.x editions… but not only on vSphere, by covering also other VMware (and non VMware) products.

Reading Time: < 1 minute The Mastering VMware vSphere 6.5 book is on the shelves from the end of December 2017 and it’s going quite good, considering that it was my book. Now I can announce a new book project that it’s almost complete and in the final review stage: still based on vSphere 6.5, the book is focused on VCP6.5-DCV exam.

Reading Time: 2 minutes VMware vSphere 6.7 is in GA since April 2018 (see this post) and the know issues are quite limited. Most of the other VMware and 3rd party products have reach the compatibility this this new release. For example, recently, also Veeam Backup & Replication support for vSphere 6.7 with the new 9.5 update 3a patch.

Reading Time: 4 minutes As you know the VMUG membership is completly free as also all the benefits, including the online resources, local meeting and UserConf events (some events may have a fee depending by the local VMUG, but almost are for free). But, if you want (and it’s not mandatory for VMUG membership), you can have more benefit by subscribing to the VMUG Advantage, that is an interesting way to stay on top of your technical skills with discounts on training, certifications, attendance at VMworld and on product licenses.

Reading Time: 4 minutes If you look at the recenty Nutanix Acropolis Operating Systems releases you will notice new versions in just few months: Nutanix AOS 5.6 was released in April and now Nutanix AOS 5.8 has been just released. What does it means for the support and the lifecycle of the products?

Reading Time: 2 minutes The new Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 3a patch may introduce some warnings backing up Microsoft SQL Server VMs after installing the update. It does not happen in all cases, and seems more limited for SQL Express instances. But Veeam has described the issues in KB2689 (https://www.veeam.com/kb2689) with also the required fix!

Reading Time: 3 minutes In the last months there were several post about the vRealize Log Insight for vCenter Server edition… a “free” version of vRealize Log Insight included with vCenter Server license (so not really free, but included in your license cost). This was true since vRealize Log Insight 3.3.2 and above will accept the vCenter Server 5.x or 6.x license key you already have. Refer to the VMware Product Interoperability Matrices for confirmation of which versions are compatible. To be honest there were only 25 OSI included (vRealize Log Insight counts the sources of the log), but quite enough […]
