Only a few weeks after the release of NAKIVO v7.5 with vSphere 6.7 support, now NAKIVO has announced the new version 8.0 of Nakivo Backup & Replication.
The new version introduces the Site Recovery feature, which can help customers achieve business continuity and 24/7 availability of IT services.
The Site Recovery suite includes sets of actions and conditions that can be combined to create a Site Recovery job of any complexity. You can create a simple SR job to cater for a specific scenario (e.g., local power outage) as well as a complex one for comprehensive disaster recovery orchestration. Likewise, each of these jobs can be fully automated, requiring minimal input on your part, or manual, which allows for more granular control over all your disaster recovery activities.
The v7 was developed quite fast in just one year and a half, with an impressive growth of features:
- August 2018 – NAKIVO Backup & Replication v7.5
- April 2018 – NAKIVO Backup & Replication v7.4
- November 2017 – NAKIVO Backup & Replication v7.3
- August 2017 – Nakivo Backup & Replication v7.2
- May 2017 – Nakivo Backup & Replication v7.1
- March 2017 – NAKIVO v7 release
But NAKIVO Backup & Replication v8 seems to become a new milestone. With version 8.0 there are new possibilities:
- Advanced Site Recovery Workflows: NAKIVO Backup & Replication v8 lets users build tailored recovery workflows to automate and simplify the entire site recovery process. For example, a Site Recovery job can include any combination of the following steps: gracefully shut down source VMs, run a final VM replication, change replica VM IPs, connect replica VMs to appropriate networks, set the replica VM boot order, verify successful recovery, send email notifications, etc.
- Non-Disruptive Site Recovery Testing: The Site Recovery feature enables customers to define recovery time objectives (RTOs) for recovery workflows and perform scheduled non-disruptive site recovery testing. The tests can verify whether site recovery can run successfully and whether the recovery process can be completed within the target time frame.
- Single-Click Site Recovery: With NAKIVO Backup & Replication, customers can perform planned failover, emergency failover, failback, and datacenter migration in a single click. Customers can create a single recovery workflow for an entire organization or create multiple workflows for individual departments, branch offices, etc.
- All-in-One Availability Solution: Site Recovery is an integral feature of NAKIVO Backup & Replication and does not require separate licensing. With NAKIVO Backup & Replication v8, customers can use one solution for data backup, deduplication, granular restore, replication, and site recovery. All aspects of data protection and recovery can be managed from a single pane of glass and are covered by a single license.
Site Recovery was designed to orchestrate and automate the VM disaster recovery process. The feature lets you build custom recovery workflows (i.e., Site Recovery jobs) from a set of available actions, including:
- Failover for VMware VMs, Hyper-V VMs, and AWS EC2 instances (You can fail over to a previously created replica)
- Failback for VMware VMs, Hyper-V VMs, and AWS EC2 instances (You can transfer workloads back from a replica at a DR site to the source VM or instance once your primary site is usable again)
- Start VMware VMs, Hyper-V VMs, or AWS EC2 instances
- Stop VMware VMs, Hyper-V VMs, or AWS EC2 instances
- Run jobs (You can run any jobs you have created)
- Stop jobs (You can stop a job that is already running)
- Run script (You can execute any script on Linux or Windows machines)
- Attach repository (You can attach a backup repository)
- Detach repository (You can detach a repository that is already attached)
- Send email (You can send an email message notifying interested parties if an action completes successfully or fails)
- Wait (You can wait for a specified time period before moving on to the next action in the job’s workflow)
So a product that is trying to extend its position not only in the SMB market but now also in the enterprise market.
