At Ignite 2024, Microsoft has announced the preview of Windows 365 Link, the first Cloud PC device purpose-built to connect securely to Windows 365 in seconds.

Windows 365 was announced on 2021 and introduced the Cloud PC, a whole new category of cloud computing. Windows 365 Cloud PCs let employees securely stream their Windows desktop experience from the Microsoft Cloud to any device. 

Windows 365 Link is a compact, fan less, and lightweight device designed to revolutionize the way desk-based workers operate in shared workspaces such as hot desks and call centres.

And it’s more than a simple thin client, it has a lot of key features:

• Compact Design: measuring just 12 centimetres x 12 centimetres x 3 centimetres and weighing less than half a kilogram, it’s perfect for any workspace.
• Easy set up: post the device to end users, who can be up and running in minutes.
• Familiar management: as you would expect management is all done via hashtag#Intune – the same place you are already managing your Windows365 CloudPCs.
• Locked-down OS: no local apps or data, no way to install drivers, and no local admin, thereby reducing the attach surface. With a minimal applicable configuration policies.
• Secure: by eliminating local data and apps, as well as admin rights, Windows 365 Link significantly reduces the attack surface, making it more difficult for malicious actors to compromise the device. Windows 365 Link also provides passwordless authentication using Microsoft Entra ID. This enables users to sign in with multifactor authentication using the Microsoft Authenticator app, a cross-device passkey using a QR code, or a FIDO USB security key.
