Reading Time: 3 minutes Seems the all flash (or full flash) storage momentum: most of the storage vendor are announcing a full flash solution, in the past months. For sure means more attention (and probably more demand) of this kind of storage, considering that some years ago there were only few solutions available. X-IO is a storage vendor with a really long term (over two decades with different names) of expertise to deliver unmatched price/performance for enterprise applications. I’ve already wrote about their history, their approach and their vision… and also why their solution are different and unique from […]

Reading Time: 7 minutes Scale Computing has an interesting storage hyperconverged solution: its HC3® platform can be used for small- and medium-sized businesses but also in some enterprise departments with a simple (and different) approach to virtualization and storage. As data requirements at organizations of every size continue to require more storage assets and additional compute power, virtualization becomes a more-attractive option. For IT staffs at smaller organizations, the introduction of a virtualization layer can add complexity and management issues beyond what they are often prepared to handle. The new user interface deployed in Scale Computing’s version 6 upgrade […]

Reading Time: 3 minutes FalconStor is a well know company in the IT area; creators of several solutions like: FalconStor® Virtual Tape Library, MicroScan™ Replication, Disksafe™ Bootable Snapshot. But also pioneer of the data services first approach by combining virtualization, protection and migration technologies. The company was founder on February 2000 (15 years ago) and actually they have 3,000+ active customers (included 20+ service providers to address public and private cloud) in 56 different countries.

Reading Time: 8 minutes One of the biggest new in the new VMware vSphere 6.0 suite are probably Virtual Volumes, fundamental part of the VMware’s SDS vision. What are vSphere Virtual Volumes (or VVols)? They are an integration and management framework to convert external storage in VM-aware storage. From my point of view is the biggest news of this release (and probably the most announced, during the previous VMworld… first tech preview was in 2012!) and can really change the storage part of a virtualized design, included how it’s design. But, much important, could be a great opportunity also for […]

Reading Time: 5 minutes With the new VMware vSphere 6.0 suite there is also a new version of VMware Virtual SAN (or VSAN) now in version 6.0 (but formally it’s a 2.0 version). Seems still a separated products, althougt my hope is that it may included in some vSphere bundle (like was with the VSA). This new version brings a lot of new features and now it’s ready also the business critical applications (version 1.0 was more targeded for ROBO, VDI, DR, testing, … scenarios).

Reading Time: 2 minutes VMware’s vision of those last years it’s almost clear and it’s all around the three main pillars: SDDC, Hybrid Cloud and EUC. In order to provide the Software Defined DataCenter, VMware has work a lot on the cloud related aspects, but also for the SDN and SDS technologies to enable a VM policies driven approach. VMware NSX is the clear answer on the SDN part, but what about the SDS part?

Reading Time: 7 minutes Atlantis USX (Unified Software-defined Storage) is a software-defined storage solution (100% software) that delivers the performance of an all-flash storage array at half the cost of traditional SAN or NAS. First version was announced one year ago (February 2014) and actually there is the version 2.0 (announced on August 2014) with several interesting features. The product is quite interesting and is both a storage virtualization layer and also a full SDS storage solution. The first aspect may possible add new features to existing storage, like, for example, (in the next release) add VMware Virtual Volumes […]
