VMware vSphere ships with many metrics and properties. If we take object by object, and document metrics by metrics, it will be both dry and theoretical. You will be disappointed as it does not explain how your real world problems are solved. You’re not in the business of collecting metric.
Iwan ‘e1’ Rahabok made an impressive book on VMware vSphere Metrics and now is at its 4th edition!
This document begins with you; experienced VMware professionals tasked with optimizing and troubleshooting production environment. It documents the metric following the Triple See Method, a technique that maps metrics into operations management.
This “ability to whiteboard” became the mission of the 4th edition. The content was restructured and refined to help vSphere practitioners see the metrics as a reflection of how vSphere works. Knowing how a system works, a seasoned operators will logically expect a certain level of observability.
In the book you’ll find hundreds of analysis. All those diagrams, tables, trend charts are made possible by Aria Operations. Thousands of VMs were analyzed via interactive dashboards, as I needed to prove the relationship among the metrics.
More important the book is totally free and available online. The book has a new home at Broadcom community. The direct link is https://lnkd.in/g-SXbmmM
