Veeam® Software today announced the release of Veeam Data Platform v12.2, broadening support for protecting data on an extensive range of new platforms while continuing to advance end-to-end cybersecurity capabilities.

This latest release of Veeam Backup & Replication (build 12.2.0.334) combines the most comprehensive data backup, recovery, and security capabilities with the ability to empower customers to migrate and secure data across new platforms.

It’s a “minor” release, there are several new features interesting, including:

  1. VMware vSphere 8.0.3 full support: With Veeam Backup & Replication 12.1.2 (build 12.1.2.172) there was “only” a compatibility-level support.
  2. Backup for Proxmox VE: Protect the native hypervisor without requiring the management or use of backup agents. Enjoy flexible recovery options, including VM restores from and to VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, oVirt KVM, AWS, Azure and Google Cloud; as well as restores of physical server backups directly to Proxmox VE (for DR or virtualization/migration).
  3. Enhanced Nutanix AHV integration: Protect critical Nutanix AHV data from replica nodes without impacting the production environment. Benefit from deep Nutanix Prism integration with policy-based backup jobs, increased backup security, and flexibility in network design.
  4. Backup for MongoDB: Bolster your cyber resilience with ease by leveraging immutable backups, backup copies, and advanced storage capabilities.
  5. Expanded AWS support: Extend native resilience to Amazon FSx and Amazon Redshift through policy-based protection and fast, automated recovery.
  6. Expanded Microsoft Azure support: Extend native resilience to Azure Cosmos DB and Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 for resilient protection and fast, automated recovery.
  7. Security improvements: full management of YARA rules, including RBAC, secure distribution, and orchestrated scanning of backups, allowing timely detection of issues and ensuring compliance rules are met.

Are you using File to Tape jobs? Consider the following: They have been re-engineered for scalability and are no longer free with Veeam Backup & Replication 12.2. You will have a grace period of 3 months following the upgrade to Veeam Backup & Replication 12.2, during which your existing jobs will not consume a license. For more information, see Instance Consumption for Object Storage Backup, File Backup, and File to Tape Jobs.

To upgrade the Veeam Backup & Replication server to version 12.2, you must run version 11a (build 11.0.1.1261) or later and follow the Veeam Backup & Replication 12.2 upgrade notes. To upgrade from previous versions, contact Veeam Technical Support.

Note that other feature, like Veeam Backup Server on Linux, will come with the next major release (v13 probably on next year).

Also it’s not only Veaam Backup & Replication, but there are also new version of Veeam ONE 12.2 (build 12.2.0.4093), Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows 6.2 (build 6.2.0.121), Veeam Agent for Linux 6.2, Veeam Agent for Mac 2.2, Veeam Agent for Oracle Solaris 4.5, Veeam Agent for IBM AIX 4.5, Veeam Recovery Orchestrator 7.1, Veeam Service Provider Console 8.1.
