Reading Time: 4 minutes Some weeks ago I’ve got the opportunity to talk with some people from Maxta Inc. about their storage solutions. Maxta’s mission is to dramatically simplify and streamline IT by thinking outside the storage box. Maxta has redefined enterprise storage, enabling our customers to realize the full potential of the Software-Defined Data Center. Their idea is simple (and not necessary new): eliminate Storage Arrays and Storage Networking with a completely software based storage solution that provide an hypervisor agnostic, VM-centric Enterprise-class data services for VM agility, continuous availability, data protection, and capacity optimization.

Reading Time: 4 minutes In my briefing with SNIA Europe, during the last Powering the cloud event, was with Bob Plumridge, SNIA Europe Chairman of the Board and Mark Jones Director Technical Marketing of Emulex but present as Vice Chairman of FCIA (Fibre Channel Industry Association). SNIA (Storage Networking Industry Association) Europe advances the interests of the storage industry by driving the evolution and adoption of storage technologies and standards, educating the market and influencing relevant EU and national polices. Reading Time: 5 minutes The new VMware vSphere 5.5 has some interesting new features and scalability properties that make interesting for each new environment, but also for existing customers (considering that the license key remain still the same of the 5.x feature). So could make sense start using directly this version instead of the 5.1 and upgrade all existing environment to the new version 5.5? Like each new version you have to make some consideration first and especially before starting the upgrade procedure. The main consideration is that each new product (does not matter that is a major or […]

Reading Time: 9 minutes Now that both Microsoft and VMware have officially announced the new released of their virtualization products it’s possible make an homogenous comparison between Hyper-V 2012 R2 (the fourth generation of Hyper-V) and vSphere 5.5. VMware vSphere 5.5 introduces several news and scalability improvements, on the other side Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 R2 consolidate its features and improve what was already existing in the 2012 version, with a limited (but significant) new features. For example now, finally, some VMware old date features are mainstream also in Hyper-V, like VM hot cloning, hot disk resize (in this case […]

Reading Time: 4 minutes Probably in VMware vCloud Suite 5.5 announce, most of the attention has gone on the news related to VMware vSphere 5.5 and the new products (like NSX and VSAN). But there are some significant news also in the new vCloud Director 5.5, most are well described in the What’s New with VMware vCloud Director® 5.5 document and this official blog.

Reading Time: 3 minutes With the announce of the new VMware vCloud Suite 5.5, there are some new features and also several improvements. We have already discuss about the new limits of VMware vSphere 5.5, let’s consider the other aspects. First we have to say that, as usually, most of the new features or technologies are almost related to the Enterprise Plus edition… that means no significant changes for the SMB segment. Editions remain the same of vSphere 5 and the comparison tables are already updated to the new version. Also the Licensing, Pricing and Packaging document has been […]

Reading Time: 3 minutes Duncan Epping has wrote (on 2010) a nice post with the meaning of several, not too obvious, VMware acronyms used sometime in some product name, but usually in the internal process or file name. In those post you can found also some interesting facts about the meaning and the origin of some names. Now I’ve just put a copy here and short the list alphabetically and also added some new entries:

Reading Time: 4 minutes During the VMware NOW – Live Launch Event with Pat Gelsinger (VMware CEO) and other executives there where several news also with new products. The VMware vision announced (or confirmed if you prefer) during the last Partner Exchange was all around three main points: Software Defined Datacenter, Hybrid Cloud and End User Computing. Most news (or the most important) are around the first point, considering that the several previous announces have already covered the Hybrid Cloud strategy and that the EUC will be probably covered better during the European VMworld edition.
