Veeam has announced the acquisition of N2W Software (N2WS), their first major acquisition in an all-cash transaction deal for N2WS valued at $42.5M. This after an impressive year, with $827M in total bookings revenue and 36% annual growth!

N2WS was founded with the mission of providing enterprise-class data protection for workloads in the public cloud.

N2WS is a leader in IaaS data protection, providing a cloud-native backup solution specifically designed for AWS workloads, enabling organizations to back up data and applications as often as needed and recover them in seconds. N2WS grew revenues by 102% in 2017.

N2WS will still operate as an independent company, with its brand, but becoming “A Veeam Company”.

The two names appear publically together, for the first time, at a VeeamON event, with the announce of the solution Veeam backup e recovery for AWS (https://go.veeam.com/backup-recover-aws).

Veeam Availability for AWS was a cloud-native, agentless data protection and Availability solutionfor AWS applications and data, but not directly realized by Veeam… Instead was built by N2WS and based on N2WS Cloud Protection Manager.

The acquisition strengthens Veeam as a leading provider of Availability for any app, any data, across any cloud, and its ability to protect AWS deployments.

With Veeam’s continued penetration into the enterprise, and N2WS’ data protection for AWS public cloud workloads, this combination will deliver solutions that enable businesses of all sizes to run more workloads in the public cloud and realize the associated cost savings and other benefits.

Considering that N2WS Cloud Protection Manager solution provides full support for EC2/EBS, RDS, RedShift and Aurora in the AWS cloud, will be interesting see which kind of product could become the Veeam Availability solution that already provide a strenght support for Virtual (on-prem) and physical environment (as a sources) and great support for cloud services for the target. Can we expect a bigger engagement for the cloud services at the source?
