Reading Time: 3 minutes Arrcus emerges from stealth and has launched and released its first product: ArcOS, an independent, open, Linux-based, hardware agnostic network operating system. ArcOS is a high-quality alternative to vertically integrated OEMs, to meet and exceed the modern smart network infrastructure requirements. ArcOS is a fully programmable, microservices-based network operating system built from first principles. Based on Debian Linux, it is an open system that can be easily integrated with other Linux distributions as well.

Reading Time: 4 minutes Big Switch Networks announced that Big Cloud Fabric (BCF) now supports a robust ecosystem of the leading hyperconverged (HCI) solutions, including: VMware vSAN, Dell EMC ScaleIO, and Nutanix. Big Switch Networks is a company in the Software Defined Network (SDN) area with a clear declared mission: to bring network innovation to a broader audience, by delivering fit-for-purpose products based on hyperscale networking technologies.

Reading Time: 5 minutes I’ve already talk about Big Switch in some previous posts (see Big Switch Networks has a big announce), now there are other news both in the Big Cloud Fabric (with new version 2.6) and Big Tap Monitoring Fabric (with the new versione 4.5). The Big Tap product does not need too much explanation: it’s a 1G/10G/40G network visibility fabric that leverages high-performance bare metal Ethernet switches or Dell Open Networking switches to provide pervasive and scalable monitoring of an organization’s network traffic. The new version will add some new features and will support new switches […]

Reading Time: < 1 minute After the big announce in the previous week, now Big Switch Networks will launch its BSN Labs to the public. What is BSN Labs? It’s an online portal to test drive its SDN products, including Big Cloud Fabric and Big Tap Monitoring Fabric… like a hands-on-lab it could be very useful also for understand how the products works and its features. While traditional networking products require access to physical hardware in order to use or test products, Big Switch Labs enables instant online testing of its products via this one-of-a-kind demo environment.

Reading Time: 3 minutes Big Switch Networks is a company in the Software Defined Network (SDN) area with a clear declared mission: to bring hyperscale networking to a broader audience, by delivering fit-for-purpose products based on hyperscale networking technologies. They have two main products: Big Tap Monitoring Fabric and Big Cloud Fabric. The first one is an entry level solution for monitoring existing networks, the second one is an advanced bare-metal SDN switching fabric intended for new data center pods such as private cloud, big data and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). First version of Big Cloud Fabric (BCF) was […]

Reading Time: 4 minutes Software Defined Networking (SDN) is revolutionizing the traditional networking approaches that have become too complex, closed, proprietary and/or difficult to program. The technology has the potential to enable network innovation by allowing network owners and operators more control of their infrastructure, thus allowing customization, optimization, and the reduction in overall capital and operational expenses. SDN is still early in its lifecycle, and has not yet crossed the chasm. The technology today is maturing fast and growing its ecosystem, but there is still much to be discussed, explored, innovated and built. Analyst firm IDC predicts the […]

Reading Time: 3 minutes Some weeks after the announce of the DynamicOps acquisition intent, VMware has announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Nicira, a pioneer in software-defined networking (SDN) and a leader in network virtualization for Open Source initiatives. VMware will acquire Nicira for approximately $1.05 billion in cash plus approximately $210 million of assumed unvested equity awards. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. The parties expect the acquisition to close during the second half of 2012. The acquisition has been approved by the boards of directors of both VMware […]
