Reading Time: 5 minutesDuring the last Red Hat Summit (May, 2-4 2017 at Boston), there were a lot of news showing how Red Hat is moving from the Linux business to new business in the OpenSource and the cloud computing area (OpenStack it’s probably one big case, but, funny, was not part of relevant news). The most interesting news are:

Reading Time: 14 minutesThis is the fourth part of a set of posts realized for StarWind blog and focused on the design and implementation of a ROBO infrastructure. See also the original post. Design a ROBO infrastructure. Part 4: HCI solutions 2-nodes hyperconverged solution As written in the previous post, for ROBO scenario the most interesting HCI (Hyper-Converged Infrastructure) configuration is a two nodes configuration, considering that two nodes could be enough to run dozen VMs (or also more). For this reason, not all hyperconverged solutions could be suitable for this case (for example Nutanix or Simplivity need at least 3 […]

Reading Time: 2 minutesDataWorks Summit is the new brand name of the Hadoop Summit, the premier event for business and technical audiences who want to learn how (big) data is transforming business and the underlying technologies that are driving that change. This event is organized annualy (both in US and EU) by Hortonworks Inc, an independent company, formed in June 2011 and funded by $23 million venture capital from Yahoo! and Benchmark Capital. The company employs contributors to the open source software project Apache Hadoop. Maybe is not know as Red Hat, but is one of the OpenSource biggest companies!

Reading Time: 3 minutesThe industry’s (almost) biggest annual survey has just started again: the goal of the survey executed by Ruben Spruijt, CTO Atlantis Computing, and Mark Plettenberg, PM LoginVSI, is to share insights about usage, configuration and trends in the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and Server Based Computing industry, ‘the State of the VDI and SBC union’. The survey responses will be strictly confidential and data from this research will be reported only in the aggregate. The results will be reported in a whitepaper that is free to download after registration. If that’s not enough we are also […]

Reading Time: < 1 minuteDataWorks Summit (formelly Hadoop Summit) is the industry’s premier big data community event with both an European and US edition. It’s a great opportunity to learn from your peers and industry experts how open source technologies enable you to leverage all your data, on premise and in the cloud, to drive predictive analytics, distributed deep-learning, and artificial intelligence initiatives. Not necessary only with Apache Hadoop technology (and this probably is the main reason of the name changing for the event).

Reading Time: 2 minutesVMware, a global leader in cloud infrastructure and business mobility, and OVH, a global hyper-scale cloud provider, have announced OVH intends to acquire VMware vCloud Air business. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.  The transaction is expected close in calendar 2Q 2017. Funny that OVH group was also a big vCloud partner from VMware and it’s curious to see that now can buy the vCloud Air business (maybe the datacenters used by VMware were almost from OVH?). But what about the technology itself, considering that vCloud Air is something more that vCloud Director […]
