Reading Time: 2 minutesFinally the results of the contest Voting for the 2014 top VMware & virtualization blogs are out on vSphere-land web site, after the live show where the top 25 were announced. My guess about the first of each category has almost been matched (where my first options in most cases). But according with this “spoiler” post there are several surprise in the top lists (maybe is becoming too much a popolarity contest, must is still one of the most followed). With a big surprise also this year I’ve received some votes and vInfrastructure site is […]

Reading Time: 7 minutesDuring the first day of the third edition of Virtualization Field Day (#VFD3) the first company that we (as delegates) met was CloudPhysics, and was really a great way to start the #VFD3. CloudPhysics helps systems administrators make smart, data-driven decisions. Their groundbreaking SaaS platform brings Big Data analytics to your virtualized datacenter, generating fresh operational insights that you can act on with certainty. Big Data technology is used by companies across numerous industries to discover new ways to improve operations. Ironically, one industry that is missing from the list is IT itself. CloudPhysics goal […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesVMware has introduced a new certification policy (is effective as of March 10, 2014) that require a re-certification every two years. Actually this does not differ too much from other vendor’s technical certifications. Note that, at least in this phase, this only apply to VCP certifications (and not like other have written also to VCAP or VCDX): VMware is implementing a recertification policy for VCP certification. To recertify, VMware Certified Professional (VCP) holders must pass any VCP or higher-level exam within two years of earning their most recent VCP certification. Some people have several concerns […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesTech Field Day events bring together innovative IT product vendors and independent thought leaders to share information and opinions in a presentation and discussion format. Independent bloggers, freelance writers, and podcasters have a public presence that has immense influence on the ways that products and companies are perceived and by the general public. The world of media has changed, with social media and blogging gaining special importance. But first to all, in my opinion, is a community event for the community: each session is live and available on YouTube and Vimeo some hours after, completely […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesOnly few hours left until the third edition of the Virtualization Field Day (#VFD3), scheduled on March 5-7 in Silicon Valley (California). As written, for the first time I’ll be a delegate and I’m very excited and curios about this type of events. Also the Tech Field Day sessions are often streamed live, and recordings will be available after the event and could become available also for non delegates. In most cases they become a must to understand some technologies (see this post on why you need to be watching Tech Field Day). Virtualization Field […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesVeeam Certified Engineer (VMCE) certification is a way to demonstrate that an engineer possesses the necessary level of expertise to correctly architect, implement and configure Veeam Software Solutions. It’s a new certification announced by Veeam some month ago in order to bring a technical certification level in the existing partner’s related certifications (sales and technical pre-sales), similar at the (initial) certifications in the VMware partners program. It will also become mandatory for Veeam’s partners. Note that each VMCE is related to a major version of Veeam products.

Reading Time: 2 minutesFormally a VMware vSphere Essential Plus (or Essential) suite can only be managed by a vCenter Server Essential (which is in fact a vCenter Foundation limited to only handle Essential or Essential Plus hosts). The reason is simple: the Essential bundles were born and developed for SMEs as finished packages and not as a way to extend their infrastructure (especially since formally every company could only buy one of these bundles). But until the vSphere 4.x releases was still possible to manage one or more Essential / Essential Plus clusters with a single vCenter Server […]
