Reading Time: 7 minutesThe challenge! SMB segment could be a (big) challenge due to the following reasons: Requirements: in most cases are the same of the enterprise segment. For example the required availability and SLA are really close and may imply similar solutions to achieve it. Constraints: are really different and in most cases very strictly. For example budget, but also the IT staff and skills. Evolution: and SMB may have big trend in evolution (or involution). Note that also in SMB, disaster recovery, business continuity, availability and security aspects have still to be considered. This kind of […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesCloud computing is a way to use (and also deliver) computing resources (for a formal definition see The NIST Definition of Cloud Computing). For this reason there are different types of cloud based on which type of “computing” resources are provided. Mainly there are three big silos: Infrastructure as a service (IaaS): usually it provides VMs a virtual datacenters resources (like storage and networking), and also the infrastucture need to manage them. An example of this kind of cloud is Amazon EC2. Platform as a service (PaaS): in this case a developer platform is provided […]

Reading Time: < 1 minuteWith this first post, I will start a collection of link and notes about the VCP5 exam prep. I will use the official blueprint (the actual version is 1.2, and is still related to the beta exam, but probably it will remain the same). Let’s start from the part that is not included in the blueprint (something is in objective 1.5): the VMware products and solutions overview and some concepts about cloud computing.
