Reading Time: 8 minutes During the first Italian Tech Field Day Extra (at Cisco Live 2015 in Milan) the company that we met was, of course, Cisco. For an entire day we had different sessions with different Cisco’s people and talk about their different products, but also their different solutions and approaches. It was a full day (January 26th) from 9:00 to 17:00 with a bunch of interesting information (especially for me, where the networking part is usually the simplest part of my project, considering the medium size of Italian projects and environments).

Reading Time: 2 minutes Tech(nical) Field Day are well know events, organized by Stephen Foskett and his team, with the purpose of bring together innovative IT product vendors and independent thought leaders to share information and opinions in a presentation and discussion format. There are different Tech Field Day events by topic (Storage, Virtualization, Networking, Wireless and, this year, also one on Data), but also some special events live from other IT events: Tech Field Day Extra and Tech Field Day Live. And although not a Tech Field Day event, the same staff has occasionally organized a live Symposium event to showcase a particular area of enterprise IT technology.

Reading Time: 5 minutes During the first European Tech Field Day Extra (at VMworld EU in Barcelona) the first company that we met was X-IO Technologies. As written in a previous post, X-IO has a long term (over two decades with different names) of expertise to deliver unmatched price/performance for enterprise applications. It’s all started in 1999 with Seagate Technologies with the idea of build a new zero touch design storage: Seagate invested over $100 million in this project, but on 2007 this technology was acquired by Xiotech (in 2007) and Intellinget Storage Element (ISE) has began is life on […]

Reading Time: 3 minutes During the first European Tech Field Day Extra (at VMworld EU in Barcelona) we have met again VMTurbo. The presentation was pretty similar to the one at the past Virtualization Field Day 3 in Palo Alto earlier in 2014 (see this post). The core founding team started VMTurbo in 2009 (the initial company was called SMARTS but was soon acquired by EMC), realizing that the rapid growth of virtualization in the datacenter was redefining the management requirements for companies of all sizes. The VMTurbo platform first launched in August 2010 and since that time more […]

Reading Time: 5 minutes During the first European Tech Field Day Extra (at VMworld EU in Barcelona) one of the companies with the more technical presentation was Diablo Technologies. This company was founded in 2003 and they’re working on Memory Channel Storage (MCS) which is a very high performance host flash solution. There where Jerome McFarland (Principal Product Marketer, Diablo Technologies), Daniel Beveridge (Senior End User Computing Architect, VMware), Ricky Trigalo (Director Virtualization Solution Architecture, Diablo Technologies) to explain this kind of solution and how apply in virtualized environments.
