VCAP5-CIA study guides

Reading Time: 3 minutes The VCAP-CIA is the administration VCAP related exam for the VMware Cloud certification path. Was released some months ago (after the common beta period) and is the second type “admin role based” exam (after the VCAP-DCA one). Considering how is recent and new there are only few info about it: some exam experiences (mostly in the beta period), the confirmation that is based on vCloud Director 5.1 and of course the official page and documentation (including the blueprint). Installing vCloud Director in a lab

Reading Time: 5 minutes Build a vCloud lab is interesting to increase your skill and knowledge, make some test and of course preparing for the VCAP-CIA exam. If you build on a ESXi nested environment you will not have too much problem (except with old hardware that may not support complete ESXi nesting with vSphere 5.1). With a VMware Workstation environment (of course with enough memory and resources) could be more fun and portable. But could be more difficult if you plan to use vCloud Director virtual appliance.

OVF deployment and configuration

Reading Time: 2 minutes Some of the interesting aspects of the Open Virtualization Format (OVF) are the simplicity in the distribution, the power in the portability, the platform independence (although is not completely platform agnostic) and the ability to add additional metadata used for the configuration or simple to give more information about the OVF package. It’s also an open standard, proposed and submitted to the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) in September 2007 by VMware, Dell, HP, IBM, Microsoft and XenSource.

Free cloud services for SMB

Reading Time: 2 minutes In a previous post (Approaching the SMB segment), I’ve already considered some solutions and approaches for SMB. Public cloud (especially in a SaaS form) could be an interesting way in several scenarios. The interesting aspects is that there are several services also for free, valuable both for personal use, but also for SMB (mainly for small-sized companies).
