Reading Time: 8 minutesSome months ago I described the characteristics of a new Dell’s product, intended to redefine the existing server form factors and the server converged concept: Dell PowerEdge VRTX is the first and so far only Dell product (at present there aren’t similar solutions for other vendors) to merge together three different form factors (tower, rack and blade) into one with unique characteristics. It could be defined a Data Center in a box, or (using a quote from Dell) a (private) Cloud in a box. Basically it’s an integrated tower format system (complete with wheels if […]

Reading Time: 2 minutesDell EqualLogic is a well know name in iSCSI storage and it does not any presentation. But the “converged” version for the M1000e blade enclosure maybe need more information. I’ve see a prototype (Code name: Colossus) during the Dell Storage Forum at London and it was absolutely interesting and promising. The final product is called Dell EqualLogic PS-M4110 Blade Array and it’s fully compatible with the exiting PowerEdge M1000e enclosures (designed and realized several years ago) with the only requisite to have at least one 10Gbps fabric (and of course have an updated firmware).

Reading Time: 2 minutesRecently I’ve got a strange issue with an Dell EqualLogic environment and I’ve not found any useful info about the related error message: Subsystem: MgmtExec Event ID: 8.3.48 Schedule Replica oraria aborted because the group was too busy processing a max-keep value change to create the operation scheduled for time …

Reading Time: 7 minutesDuring the last Dell Enterprise Forum, Dell announced a further differentiation to the range of converged infrastructure solutions to help businesses of all sizes to address common issues related to complexity, inefficiency and rigidity of the existing IT infrastructure. The new solution called Dell PowerEdge VRTX (available from 26 June) can be customized for specific applications and workloads, but also can bring enterprise-class convergent technology to new scenarios: ROBO and SMB.

Reading Time: 2 minutesAt VMware’s Partner Exchange event at Las Vegas, Dell and VMware announced a strategic partnership to offer an end-to-end VDI solution for the mid-market. More interesting is that the announce was also during a PEX session (EUC1322: Enabling Cloud Desktops DaaS – Partner Opportunities and Technology) giving several interesting technical detail both for the DaaS related aspects (and also the limitation with the Windows license), but also in the Dell implementation.

Reading Time: < 1 minuteSeem that the Dell Storage Forum event has been renamed in Dell Enterprise Forum and the previous site (dellstorageforum.com) has been replaced by a new one (dellenterpriseforum.com). Also the twitter account @DellSF and been replaced by a new @DellEntForum one (seems that has only been renamed). Actually this does not change the planned events (neither the locations and the dates): US event: June 4-6, 2013 | San Jose, California EMEA event: 14-16 January 2014 | Frankfurt, Germany

Reading Time: 3 minutesFor the new SRM 5.1 a new EqualLogic SRA is required (version 2.2) and it’s available both on EqualLogic site (in the support section) and VMware site (in the SRM download page). The upgrade procedure is simple and it’s described in the previous post. You have simple to run the installation. But there is now a new interesting option on how storage replication (note that are used asynchronous replication) are handled:
