Reading Time: 2 minutesIn the previous post, I’ve described how is possible integrate the Dell storage array management with the new Microsoft System Center VMM 2012. But of course it is possible to do the same (and from longer time) also using VMware. With VMware vSphere we could have two different approaches for the integration: One is simple add the storage interface (or part of it) in the tab and/or the menu of vSphere Client by using a vCenter Server plug-in. In this case the integration could be strong or weak, but usually differ from storage and storage. […]

Reading Time: 2 minutesRumors were from some months ago, but today Quest announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by Dell. Dell will buying Quest for $2.4 Billion. Until now, Quest acquisitions were already a big number of players, including: VKernel (November 2011) Vizioncore (December 2008) Curious that Dell list only (for example) this advantages in the acquisition: The Quest One Identity and Access Management solution family adds to Dell’s very strong set of security assets with SonicWALL and Secureworks, creating a comprehensive set of security solutions to address important customer needs. Quest’s Performance […]

Reading Time: 4 minutesThe PowerEdge™ R720 server is one of the 12G models of Dell server’s portfolio. By working for a Dell’s partner I’ve got the opportunity to test one and those are my consideration. Of course processors are new (Intel® Xeon ® processor E5-2600 product family), but Intel (the last 0 mean that is an Intel server) does not help due to strange choice in the numbers of the Xeon series (I’ve already talk about it in the post Greater number is always better? For Intel maybe no) … The silly aspect is that an old R810 […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesHas written in the previous post, Dell EqualLogic Host Integration Tools for Linux 1.1 officially support only a few Linux OS, but it can work fine also on others. Actually the distributions is RPM based, so there is a bigger effor to port it to other distro, like Debian and Ubuntu. I’ve tried with a updated release of CentOS 6.2 and it works fine, but you will need some packages that may be not installed (and also dkms that is not included in the installation source): yum install iscsi-initiator-utils libpcap gcc make rpm -Uhv http://packages.sw.be/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el6.rf.i686.rpm […]

Reading Time: < 1 minuteAfter a beta period, the Dell EqualLogic Host Integration Tools for Linux V1.1 has achieved (some days ago) Early Production Access status and is available for download via the standard Dell EqualLogic download site. Note that Early Production Access software is fully supported for production use. As a reminder, HIT/Linux includes tools that provide tight integration of EqualLogic PS Series arrays with Linux environments for enhanced protection, performance and simplified configuration and administration of EqualLogic PS Series storage arrays. HIT/Linux 1.1  feature enhancements over the previous release of HIT/Linux 1.0 include the following: Auto-Snapshot Manager/Linux […]

Reading Time: < 1 minuteAfter the acquisition of AppAssure, Dell today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire SonicWALL, Inc., a leader in advanced network security and data protection. Now with the Force10 brand and the new (possible) Security brand, how will evolve the partship with Juniper (for the PowerConnect-J series)? Will finish as the one with EMC2?
