Reading Time: < 1 minuteI’ve already written a post about the reintroduction of the MCSA and MCSE certifications. Now that some of them are live (MCSA on Windows Server 2008 was the first, now also the MCSE on Private Cloud is available) the new certification schema has become more clear. Seems that there on new products only this model will be adopted (so probably no new version of MCTS or MCITP certification) and those MCSE certifications are already be announced: MCSE Private Cloud: already available… Is the new version of the MCITP on virtualization and management. MCSE Server Infrastructure: […]

Reading Time: < 1 minuteAs written in a previous post, with Microsoft System Center VMM 2012 is possible manage some (supported) storage array using a SMI-S provider. In the Dell storage portfoglio, the only solution that (one month ago) had the SMS-S support was the PowerVault MD3xxx series, and althoug not mentioned by Microsoft, was possible include them in the System Center fabric (as written in specific post).

Reading Time: < 1 minuteIn the fabric section of System Center VMM 2012 is also possible add external hardware network load balancers and manage, in a similar way as a storage array can be added and managed. But in this case there isn’t a standard interface to remote manage the devices and each vendor must make available a supported “provider” that is just the management software part for the integration with VMM. Actually the supported devices are:

Reading Time: 3 minutesIn the previous post I’ve described how System Center VMM 2012 can handle and manage some storage compatible with the SMI-S interface. Now I’ll explain how connect an old Dell PowerVault MD3000i (but of course works also with recent models) using the SMIA (SMI Application) package that actually is not available as a standalone package, but it’s only included in the VMware vCenter Center integration (MD Storage Array vCenter Plug-in). You can simple adapt it to work also for SCVMM. First you have to download the binary (there are a 32 bit and 64 bit […]

Reading Time: 2 minutesOne of the interesting features of System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 is that it can handle several other objects and not only the VM (when the name will be changed to reflect this?). Of course it can handle hosts (not only Hyper-V hosts), but also networking and storage. All those resource are in the “fabric” tab. In this case we see a storage array with its LUNs:

Reading Time: < 1 minuteIn the previous post we have discuss on how convert from VHD (used for example in Microsoft Hyper-V) to VMDK format (used in VMware products). Now let’s see how to convert from the other side. There are several tools to make this V2V operation:
