Reading Time: 5 minutes PernixData FVP is a Flash Hypervisor software aggregates server flash across a virtualized data center, creating a scale-out data tier for accelerating reads and writes to primary storage in a simple and powerful way. Was one of first (probably the first) to implement a fault-tolerant write back acceleration. As part of the PernixPro program, I’ve got the opportunity to test various version of this product that actually support all version of ESXi 5.x (so is not limited to the 5.5 version) and works both with the vSphere Client and also with the vSphere Web Client.

Reading Time: < 1 minute The rumors about a new storage supported for Veeam Explorer for SAN were true and Veeam has recently announce the support (with the next version) of NetApp snapshot. Actually the supported storage (for the storage snapshot integration feature) are only HP: first was StoreVirtual (when was still called LeftHand) and later the StoreServ (3PAR) products. This announce is the second related the new features of the upcoming Veeam Backup & Replication v8 release (the first was indirectly the beta of Veeam Explorer for AD).

Reading Time: 4 minutes After the VMware NOW: Virtual SAN Special Online Event of past week (on Thursday, March 6, 2014), now VMware announce the GA Virtual SAN 5.5, a Software-Defined Storage with the declared objective to bring the efficient operational model of virtualization to the storage world. This product was widely announced in previous VMworld and arrived after a long beta program with and unprecedented customer interest and validation: 12,000+ Virtual SAN Beta Participants represent an interesting number (also considering some prizes and contents during the beta period).

Reading Time: 8 minutes During the second day of the third edition of Virtualization Field Day (#VFD3) one of the company that we (as delegates) met was Coho Data that is a (new) cool company in the big storage arena. Their beginnings as Convergent.io with a specific goal of shifting the way that storage is built and managed. This session also match the announcement of the General Availability (GA) of their Web-Scale Storage Appliance for the Enterprise. Formally they are a software company, but the solution is a storage appliance already packet with both the hardware part and the software part (there are different reasons […]

Reading Time: 4 minutes Some weeks ago I’ve got the opportunity to talk with some people from Maxta Inc. about their storage solutions. Maxta’s mission is to dramatically simplify and streamline IT by thinking outside the storage box. Maxta has redefined enterprise storage, enabling our customers to realize the full potential of the Software-Defined Data Center. Their idea is simple (and not necessary new): eliminate Storage Arrays and Storage Networking with a completely software based storage solution that provide an hypervisor agnostic, VM-centric Enterprise-class data services for VM agility, continuous availability, data protection, and capacity optimization.

Reading Time: 4 minutes Some days ago I’ve got an interesting conf with Eric Keohan and Jonathan Klick about the Infinio product for storage acceleration in a VMware environment. Infinio is a start-up and began in 2011 when Columbia computer science professor Vishal Misra and his fellow researchers saw the potential for their work to solve real-world problems. Vishal enlisted experienced software industry entrepreneurs and top-notch engineers (including co-founders Arun Agarwal and Dan Rubenstein) to make that vision a reality. They exit from stealth mode during the Tech Field Day 9 and announce their innovative product: a caching appliance […]

Reading Time: 2 minutes In my briefing with Dot Hill, during the last Powering the cloud event, was with Warren Reid, EMEA Marketing Director at Dot Hill. I’ve met him also last year during the past event so was the opportunity know what has changed in the last months. Dot Hill is a OEM manufacture in software and hardware solutions for storing, sharing, protecting and managing data. Their storage array products are really interesting mid-size market for the  front-end options and in the software functions. But they have also some interesting achievements (search on Internet using DotHill and CERN […]
