Reading Time: 3 minutesIs (system) virtualization becoming legacy or old style? Sounds a strange question, but there are three main trends that are changing the role and the weight of virtualization in the IT: Competition and more choices and options: VMware vSphere is still the leader (in most cases), but other hypervisors like Hyper-V and KVM are growing fast and become mostly features comparable. Cloud management and cloud services: in most cases virtualization is hidden by the managemed and also for IaaS cloud virtualization is not necessary mandatory (see also virtualization is not cloud). Container and microservices: are […]

The ProfessionalVMware #vBrownBag is a series of online webinars held using GotoMeeting and covering various Virtualization & VMware Certification topics. TechTalks are ten-minute presentations by community members at an industry conference. They originated with sessions not being accepted for the main conference catalog. TechTalks are limited to ten minutes; they deliver the very core of an idea. Keeping presentations short also means we can do a lot of sessions in a day. […]

Reading Time: 2 minutesAlthough Linux is used in several storage solutions, the native filesystems lack of modern features like deduplication or compression (compression extented attribute is present from some decade, but it’s implementions is still limited or missing). Most storage solutions use other filesystem (like ZFS), or also other operating systems: FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenSolaris branches, or also Windows Server (like DataCore). Now Permabit Technology Corporation announced the availability of its Albireo Virtual Data Optimizer (VDO) for Canonical’s Ubuntu Server.

Reading Time: 3 minutesThe US edition of VMworld 2016 is finally over (and the location and venue are been announced for next year: August 27 – August 31 still at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Convention Center). But which news are coming from this event? This year, I’ve not attend at the US edition, but I will go, as usual, at the European one. So I cannot make a detailed report, or at least I can only comment other reports. The first “news”, is the Dell-EMC fusion and again (like at the last VMworld EU) Michael Dell was present […]
