Reading Time: 4 minutesIn VMware ESXi the All Paths Down (APD) or Permanent Device Loss (PDL) condition is what occurs on an ESX/ESXi host when a storage device is removed in an uncontrolled manner from the host (or the device fails), and the VMkernel core storage stack does not know how long the loss of device access will last. A typical way of getting into APD would be a Fiber Channel switch failure or (in the case of an iSCSI array) a network connectivity issue. But there are also other scenarios that we will discuss later. VMware vSphere […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesConsidering that the core products were already announced in the US edition of VMworld, one of the (obvious) announce at VMworld EU was about the management suite (and also the Horizon Suite 5.3 and NSX 1.0). But VMware has not only announced the new versions of some management products, but also the entire cloud management vision:

Reading Time: 4 minutesVMware Certified Associate certifications are the new level (the entry level) of VMware certifications path. It is similar as other associate level from different vendor and does not have mandatory courses (but the company does provide self-paced free eLearning courses for each to help potential associates to prepare for the certification exam), but also it’s not mandatory (actually) for next level (VCP), so it’s mainly for people that want a certification but probably does not have an plan to approach (in short time) other level.

Reading Time: < 1 minuteAs you can notice in the VMware’s certifications planner, the End User Computing (EUC) path has slightly changed in some names: the related VCDX (not yet available) is simple called VCDX-Desktop (and no more VCDX-DT) and the same apply for VCP-Desktop (funny that in other point is still called VCP-DT). Remember also that the related VCP has two different path (as all other VCPs): one is the VCP-Desktop exam (that cover also the vSphere part) and one is VMware View exam. But the interesting aspect is the “Workforce Mobility” related to new Associate level (VCA): […]

Reading Time: 9 minutesNow that both Microsoft and VMware have officially announced the new released of their virtualization products it’s possible make an homogenous comparison between Hyper-V 2012 R2 (the fourth generation of Hyper-V) and vSphere 5.5. VMware vSphere 5.5 introduces several news and scalability improvements, on the other side Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 R2 consolidate its features and improve what was already existing in the 2012 version, with a limited (but significant) new features. For example now, finally, some VMware old date features are mainstream also in Hyper-V, like VM hot cloning, hot disk resize (in this case […]

Reading Time: 4 minutesProbably in VMware vCloud Suite 5.5 announce, most of the attention has gone on the news related to VMware vSphere 5.5 and the new products (like NSX and VSAN). But there are some significant news also in the new vCloud Director 5.5, most are well described in the What’s New with VMware vCloud Director® 5.5 document and this official blog.
