Reading Time: 5 minutesMicrosoft is an historical name in the IT world, both in the consumer and the professional area. Actually it’s already a player in the storage world: just consider the Windows Storage Server edition included in some storage appliances (for example the Dell PowerVault NX family). But Windows Storage Server is little more than an “embedded” version of Windows Server and basically is just a dedicated Windows Server (with a better license cost than the full edition). An enterprise storage is just more than this and must provide more functions, but first to all an high […]

VCDX-DT

Reading Time: < 1 minuteWith the release of the VMware Certified Design Expert – Desktop (VCDX-DT) certification, the certification path for the VMware End User Computing is finally completed. The official page shows all the details including the Handbook & Application. It does not report the dates for the defense, but they will be the same as other VCDX defense: VCDX defense schedule for 2014.

Reading Time: 2 minutesIn a previous post I’ve described the limits of the (legacy) vSphere Client, especially in the 5.5 version. But also the (new) vSphere Web Client has some limits, also in the 5.5 version. First to all is VMware vSphere Web Client really a multi-platform solution? It could be, but the Flash framework (and the VM console plugin) imply some possible portability issues. Starting with 5.5 version (see 5.5a or 5.5b release notes) Linux is no more supported: Because Linux platforms are no longer supported by Adobe Flash, vSphere Web Client is not supported on the […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesAs already mentioned, there could be several reasons for not upgrading to vSphere 5.5, and some are also related to the client for Windows (the vSphere Client). OF course, it will be supplanted by the new vSphere Web Client, but still this client is required for some activities (eg update the host with VUM). In addition, the Web Client works only with vCenter Server, and then in standalone configurations or configurations with the free hypervisor (which can not be managed by vCenter Server), the “old” client becomes mandatory (unless use command line). Trivially also for […]

Reading Time: 4 minutesI’ve already write about Atlantis ILIO products and how their unique host caching solution could be interesting in several cases (mostly in VDI environments). Those solutions are appreciated by more than 440 customers (500,000 VM licenses sold globally). But now there is a really big announce: Atlantis Computing become a storage vendor and bring a new solution in this segment. The Atlantis ILIO USX™ (Unified Software-defined Storage) solution purpose-built for virtualized server workloads such as databases, big data and  any line of business application. It’s a Software-defined Storage Solution, 100% software. More important can work […]

Reading Time: 2 minutesGlobalKnowledge as realize a new list of top paying certification (see 15 Top Paying Certifications for 2014). Each year they present this kind of report (see also the 2013 and 2012 note). As usual, some high level certifications are not represented due to their exclusive nature. These include CCIE: Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert and VCDX: VMware Certified Design Expert, and mainly all the Top IT Certifications. Also the truth is that several factors, including geography, industry, experience, and yes, certifications, combine to play a major role in determining an individual’s salary.

Reading Time: < 1 minuteSeems that VMware Workstation has an issue when you build VM with multiple virtual NICs. This issue affect only version 10 of Workstation, previous version and VMware Player are not affected. Actually seems that there isn’t yet any KB article, but there is a community thread with a full discussion about this bug and the temporally workaround.
