Reading Time: 4 minutesIf you are planning an in-place upgrade of a vCenter Server (the Windows installable version) you have to read carefully the vSphere Upgrade Center resources to avoid possible issues. Of course you can choose to install a new vCenter Server instance a move all to the new one. Maybe could be the right moment to switch to the vCenter Server Appliance (there is also a Flings to move your vCenter Windows data to a VCSA instance). But sometimes it’s not possible and should be preferable an in-place upgrade.

Reset the VMware SSO password in vSphere 6.0

Reading Time: 3 minutesDue to the changes in the new vCenter Server 6.0 architecture, the SSO has now been incorporated in the new VMware Platform Services Controller “role”. But the concepts of a global SSO accounts still exist and remain important to manage the infrastructure (and more important during installation and upgrade). If you forget the SSO admin password you can have some trouble. I’ve already wrote on how reset the VMware SSO password in the vSphere 5.1 and 5.5 versions and the procedure remain almost the same also in the 6.0 version.

But like each new version you have to make some consideration first and especially before starting the upgrade procedure, so be sure to start from the vSphere Upgrade Center, the VMware Product Interoperability Matrix, the VMware Compatibility Guide, but also read the following notes.
