Reading Time: 2 minutes The new Virtual SAN 6.1 has also another new features related to a specific deployment scenario: a 2-Node Remote Office Branch Office (ROBO) configuration. This configuration was possible with the previous VMware product (VSA) but was not suitable with VSAN, making space for other solutions like StorMagic SvSAN or StarWind Virtual SAN.

Reading Time: 3 minutes VMware Virtual SAN 6.0 (formally was v2.0) was a big improvement of the VMware’s hyperconverged storage solution with some important new features like the new filesystem (with powerful snapshot implementation), the concept of fault domain (to improve data resiliency), more scalability and the full flash option. Now VMware has announced a new release: Virtual SAN (or VSAN) 6.1, with new improvements, including enhanced usability & management, advanced troubleshooting, and several new features.

Reading Time: 5 minutes With the new VMware vSphere 6.0 suite there is also a new version of VMware Virtual SAN (or VSAN) now in version 6.0 (but formally it’s a 2.0 version). Seems still a separated products, althougt my hope is that it may included in some vSphere bundle (like was with the VSA). This new version brings a lot of new features and now it’s ready also the business critical applications (version 1.0 was more targeded for ROBO, VDI, DR, testing, … scenarios).

Reading Time: 2 minutes NexentaConnect is a complete suite of software solutions to combine software-defined storage with cloud, enterprise, and desktop deployments. Providing acceleration, automation and analytics that can only be delivered when storage is integrated with the entire solution stack. There are different type of Connect, and recently has been announced a specific version of VSAN: NexentaConnect complements VMware Virtual SAN simplified operating and storage consumption models by providing several new features:

Reading Time: 2 minutes VMware Virtual SAN (or VSAN) is a Software Defined Storage solution from VMware that also fits in the hyper(visor)-converged model. Although is a separate product, the core functions to implement it are already present in the vSphere 5.5 U1 version making really easy to deploy and enable it. Also the HCL is mainly the same from vSphere 5.5, but some requirements and special considerations must be considered before implementing a VSAN solution. You can start from the scracth buy scratch your hyper-converged architecture, or you can directly bought a Virtual SAN ready nodes (minimum 3 […]

Reading Time: < 1 minute Atlantis Computing has announced a new product: Atlantis ILIO for Virtual SAN, that mainly combined Atlantis ILIO with VMware Virtual SAN and VMware Horizon 6 with the declared intention to build a ultimate hyper-converged platform for VDI. Atlantis ILIO will insert a transparent software layer between the virtual machine and the underlying storage infrastructure. The joint solution leverages pooled local solid state drives (SSDs) and hard disks (HDDs) created by VSAN with Atlantis ILIO to optimize the resultant storage pool improving storage performance and increasing the available storage capacity provided to the application.

Reading Time: 3 minutes VMware vSphere Storage Appliance was a software-based shared storage solution that enables high availability and automation in vSphere without shared storage hardware (for more information see this post). VMware has announced the End of Availability of all vSphere Storage Appliance versions, effective April 1, 2014. After this date you will no longer be able to purchase this product. All support and maintenance for vSphere Storage Appliance 5.5 will be unaffected and will continue to follow the Enterprise Infrastructure Support Policy. The End of General Support life date for customers with vSphere Storage Appliance 5.5 remains […]
