Reading Time: 2 minutesWhen operating in Standalone or Managed by agent mode, Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows version 5 and all previous versions utilize Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB (as described in this article: Veeam Endpoint Backup goes GA). With Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows version 6 the LocalDB is no longer in use, Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows 6.0 uses SQLite database instead of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB (the new database path is: C:\ProgramData\Veeam\EndpointData).

Reading Time: 3 minutesVeeam Agents could be easily managed from Veeam Backup & Replication console, but this works only for licensed agents. If you have a free agent or simply a standalone agent you must manage it directly, including manage its lifecycle. But it remain very easy like in the past (see for example Upgrade to Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows 2.2 ), by using directly the Veeam Agent console, where you can check if a new version is available and start the download and upgrade process.

Just four years ago was the turn of Windows Server 2003 (End of the extended support for Windows Server 2003 family). Reading Time: 3 minutesThe new release VMware vSphere 6.7U1 has a lot of improvements, but one has not been emphasized too much: VMware vSphere 6.7 Update 1 finally supports Microsoft Active Directory 2016 schema and relative functional level! Lot of people forget that  vCenter Server, vCenter Single Sign-On and the VMware Platform Services Controller have their own interoperability matrix with Active Directory versions based on the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) domain functional level, not only with the Windows Server operating system on which Active Directory is running.

Reading Time: 2 minutesAs promised some months with the Windows Server 2019 preview build, the new Windows Server 2019 is now available in GA. This is a huge milestone after the Windows Server 2016 version released just 3 yeas ago! Lot of information about this new version are available on demand at the Ignite event page.

Reading Time: 3 minutesIf you still are using the Windows based vCenter Server with a SQL Server database you may have some login issues, due to a recent Windows update (released on July 10, 2018). You will have some errors in the SQL Server part with SQL startup issues due to “TCP port is already in use” errors. This is caused by a regression in the TCP/IP functions that manages the TCP port pool introduced in the July 10, 2018 Windows updates for Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 and Windows 8.1/Server 2012 R2.
