VMware and EMC took an important step forward in their cloud strategies by announcing plans to combine a critical mass of managed services assets from EMC II, and public cloud services from VMware vCloud Air under the Virtustream brand.

Virtustream was acquired by EMC earlier this year, and is the leader in hosting mission-critical applications, such as SAP, in the cloud.

People that are already using those cloud servers, of course, will not experience any change or disruption to their service and invoicing and support arrangements remain the same.

But will be interesting see how combining infrastructure services with mission-critical applications support will made more rich the vCloud Air services proposal and offer.
