Now that VMworld EU 2015 has finished and I’m back to home, I can point some takeaways from this trip and give my event’s impression.
Like the US edition this was a a VMworld (since several years) without any news related to a new vSphere release… focus has shift on other products and VMware is changing (the change has start some years ago) from a virtualization company to somethin more… something slighlty diffent (but it take more space to define this concept and I prefer keep for another post).
Most of the new products announcements were already done at the US edition, so not all was really new, but new management stuff (as usually in the EU edition) were annonced here. Also something new related to NSX, Cloud Native Applications, but again… most was not on the products itself but on the strategies and the approach.
“innovate like a startup and execute like an enterprise.”
“if you change you can fail, but if you don’t change you will fail for sure.”
Those were some of the concepts explained during those VMworld. And of course the theme of this year: Ready for Any!
That means One Cloud (one of the theme of past year), Any App, Any Device.
But of course the biggest news of this event was the acquisition of EMC by Dell: something really huge that has also some impacts on VMware. Michael Dell was virtually present during the keynote and Pat Gelsinger has spend a lot of words about this deal.

About me, I’ve spend most of my time at the community (included the vBrownbag TechTalks), the Solution Exchange and the VMUG lounge:
I think that networking remain the valuable aspects of VMworld: sessions will be available on-line, also hands-on-labs are available online (by the way I’ve touch a guided tour of them and was amazing), but live interaction remain unique.
