GlobalKnowledge as realize a new list of top paying certification (see 15 Top Paying Certifications for 2013 and also Top paying IT Certifications for 2012 for previous year).

Unfortunately, as written in the post, certain certifications (that pay more) are not represented due to their exclusive nature. These include CCIE: Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert and VCDX: VMware Certified Design Expert, and mainly all the Top IT Certifications.

Also the truth is that several factors, including geography, industry, experience, and yes, certifications, combine to play a major role in determining an individual’s salary.

Mainly the (GlobalKnowledge) top 10 list is really similar of the previous year:

  1. PMP® – Project Management Professional – $111,209 $105,750
  2. CISSP® – Certified Information Systems Security Professional – $110,342 $103,299
  3. MCSD: Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer – $97,849
  4. MCDBA: Microsoft Certified Database Administrator – $95,950
  5. 3. CCDA®: Cisco Certified Design Associate – $101,915 $94,799
  6. MCAD: Microsoft Certified Application Developer – $93,349
  7. VCP-DV: VMware Certified Professional Datacenter Virtualization – $92,400
  8. CNE: Certified Novell Engineer – $91,350
  9. 4. ITIL v3 Foundation – $97,691 $90,900
  10. CCA: Citrix Certified Administrator – Citrix XenServer 6 – $90,850

Actually the list itself seems a little funny and maybe not reliable: why not add VMware VCAP certifications? Or why CCA on XenServer comes before the one XenApp or XenDesktop?!

Also none of the new Microsoft certifications is present, and this probably is related to the changes in names and paths.

But one interesting (and not positive) aspect is that all numbers are smaller compared to 2012. Really not a good sign.

About the order, maybe a better one is from TrainSignal in its Top 5 Most-Valuable IT Certifications in 2013

  1. VCP (or better VCAP) – VMware Certified Professional/VMware Certified Advanced Professional
  2. MCSE: Private Cloud
  3. CISSP– Certified Information Systems Security Professional
  4. CCNA (or better CCNP) – Cisco Certified Network Associate/Cisco Certified Network Professional
  5. MCSE: Server Infrastructure – Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert: Server Infrastructure

Again, also in this list really high level certificatins (VCDX, MCM, …) are not listed.
