After some month from the previous release (see the announce of the v3.0), NAKIVO Inc. has announced (on 15 July 2013) the new release NAKIVO Backup & Replication v3.2 that introduce some new features and several optiminization to the existing core features of v3.0.

The product remain still based on a web 2.0 (here some screenshoots) almost clear and usable also from small device. But it’s not (yet) integrable with the VMware vSphere Web Client (a web based interface does not directly mean that could be integrated with the vSphere Web Client, that it’s based on Flash).

NAKIVO Backup & Replication 3.0 can be automatically integrated with Amazon cloud in under ten minutes, and secured the data with 256-bit encryption. Version 3.2 don’t add any new cloud provider native integration, but by installing the trasport part in the cloud it’s possible to use any type of cloud provider. Instead it add new compression and bandwith optimization in order to speed up to x2 the backup operations. WAN and LAN links are often slow or have limited bandwidth, driving the need to optimize network utilization with technology that can reduce network traffic. With NAKIVO Backup & Replication, network acceleration is achieved with enhanced compression and traffic reduction techniques which enable 2X faster backup and replication, as well as recovery of VMs and files from local and offsite backups.

The new version 3.2 introduce some interesting features:

  • Support for other Linux guest (Ubuntu was already supported): RHEL and SLES
  • Network acceleration (up to 2x)
  • vCloud Director Support (it does not backup yet vApp metadata, but a VM could be restored in an existing vCloud vApp)
  • Consolidate VM backup repository: in order to reduce fragmentation and optimize space

Editions and price remain the same, and considering the price it could be an interesting solution in some cases. NAKIVO Backup & Replication v3.2 is available now. Download a free 30 day trial here.
