Reading Time: 2 minutesSome month ago (on May 21st) VMware has launched its vCloud Hybrid Service, that is a customized version of a vCloud based IaaS solution targeted for hybrid cloud scenarios. Some days ago vCloud Hybrid Service achieves ISO 27001 certification for its information security management system supporting this kind of service. ISO/IEC 27001 certification is a globally recognized standard for the establishment and certification of an information security management system (ISMS). The standard maintains the requirements for implementing an ISMS, which include a detailed risk assessment, internal audit, and continuous monitoring of the controls supporting the […]

Reading Time: 2 minutesAfter some month from the previous release (see the announce of the v3.0), NAKIVO Inc. has announced (on 15 July 2013) the new release NAKIVO Backup & Replication v3.2 that introduce some new features and several optiminization to the existing core features of v3.0. The product remain still based on a web 2.0 (here some screenshoots) almost clear and usable also from small device. But it’s not (yet) integrable with the VMware vSphere Web Client (a web based interface does not directly mean that could be integrated with the vSphere Web Client, that it’s based […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesAs you probably already know this year there will be the 10th edition of VMworld US, and will probably another good reason to attend at this event (and for the VMworld EU there are still a couple of day for the early bird). There is a nice post on the VMworld’s blog with several interesting data across all the editions:VMworld 2013 Blog Series: Breakout Sessions.

Reading Time: < 1 minuteRecenltly I’ve got some issue with Storage vMotion due to the “lock” function used by some backup programs. I’ve write about it related with Symantec Backup Exec, but this time was with VMware Data Protector (VDP). Usually, backup programs disable Storage vMotion during the backup process to avoid datastore changes (and issue during the copy, considering that starting from vSphere 5.0 it’s possible use Storage vMotion also on VM with snapshots). But if the backup process fail, some backup programs does not clear this information correctly.

Reading Time: 7 minutesThis was a guest post on vDestination. Usually (especially in Country like mine) we common talk about the Digital divide that bring not equity, or at least not same opportunity, between different group. But this is mainly focused on the connectivity aspects and how accessing to broadband networks could be different and limited for somebody. But this it’s only one aspect and there are also others that must be considered!

Reading Time: 4 minutesThe current version of Symantec Backup Exec is still not supported with VMware vSphere 5.1, according with the Software Compatibility List (SCL). The full support will be available with the 2012 R2 release and/or with the 2012 SP2 (seems confirmed according with this post, but no official date has been announced yet). The missing support does not mean that does not work, but it’s quite boring because you have a lot of minor issues, some not easy to understand.

Reading Time: 2 minutesESXi is the unified version of the VMware hypervisor, but it could be installed on a host in different way: Embedded: is a OEM version usually shipped with the host Installable: is the one available from the VMware download site PXE: is used in the AutoDeploy environment If could be obvios know if you have a PXE type, how is possible find if you have an Installable or Embedded version? The destination media is not enough because you can install ESXi also over the vendor’s SD card used for the embedded versions.
