In less than one year Cohesity announced the v1, the v2 and now the v3 of Cohesity Data Platform, a product designed to consolidate all secondary storage use cases on a unified environment that helps organizations control growing data demands.

The Cohesity Data Platform combines a web-scale storage architecture with standards-based hardwar, in the same as there more and more HCI (hyperconverged infrastructure) solutions and platform in the primary storage world.

The new Cohesity release 3.0 increases the performance of our distributed DataPlatform for backups and file services, expands the backup coverage of DataProtect with support for physical Windows and Linux servers, provides source-side dedupe for databases, REST APIs for orchestration, and enables object-level recovery from data archived into the public cloud.

In the cloud approach was already revealed and clear, more interesting is the improvement of theCohesity DataProtect 3.0 that extends the reach of its data protection coverage to include physical Windows and Linux servers, in addition to today’s complete offering for backing up virtual server environments, enabling faster backup and recovery times.

And finally DataProtect 3.0 can perform app-aware Windows server backups, which ensure 100 percent consistent point-in- time restores for Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SharePoint Server, and Microsoft Exchange Server. Cohesity DataProtect also features source-side dedupe for accelerated database backups.

There is an interesting integration and support for tape, where Cohesity has worked with QStar on the solution.  QStar is installed on a dedicated physical host and has the FC connections to the tape library.  QStar exposes an NFS interface to Cohesity which we use to store a fully hydrated copy of the backed up data.

Cohesity’s new 3.0 versions of its products will be available to customers within 90 days.
