Reading Time: 2 minutesThe Dell World event has been renamed last year in DellEMC World and was very very huge. But this year will be probably bigger. And this year the event name has changed again in Dell Technologies World to match the big company that has become Dell. So not only Dell and EMC, but also VMware and all the other companies in the group.

Reading Time: 3 minutesStorage management is something unique and quite depending by the storage vendor. Solutions like VMware Virtual Volumes can simplify it by providing a common interface, but it’s more on the usage and consuming part, rather than the storage management part. The SNIA (Storage Network Industry Association) Swordfish specification is a standard that helps to provide a unified approach for the management of storage and servers in hyperscale and cloud infrastructure environments, making it easier for IT administrators to integrate scalable solutions into their data centers.

Reading Time: 4 minutesRedfish is an open industry standard specification, API and schema developed by DMTF (SPMF) group that specifies RESTful interface and utilizes JSON and OData. Redfish has been designed to deliver simple and secure management for converged, hybrid IT and the Software Defined Data Center (SDDC). Created in September 2014 with the first standard and specification in 2015, now there are 16 member companies. Promoters of this standard are: Broadcom, Dell, Emerson, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Lenovo, Microsoft, Supermicro, and VMware.

Reading Time: 3 minutesDataWorks Summit (formelly Hadoop Summit) is the industry’s premier big data community event with both an European and US edition, organized annualy by Hortonworks Inc, an independent company, formed in June 2011 and funded by $23 million venture capital from Yahoo! and Benchmark Capital. The last European event was in Munich, during April 4-6, with over 1,400 attendees. This will be probably much bigger.

Reading Time: 5 minutesMost people probably already know the terms Converged infrastructures (CI) and HyperConverged Infrastructures (HCI) that are both become quite common in the IT world, with several products and solutions that aim to be fit in those classifications. HCI has become a hot topic with several vendors that aim to be a leader in this area, or with several “magic quadrants” that try to define who is in. But like happens with the Software Defined Something (especially the Software Defined Software) it’s not always easy to determine what really can fit in a classification and what not. […]

Reading Time: 11 minutesThis is an article realized for StarWind blog and focused on the pro and cons of using GUI or CLI, with the example of VMware environment. See also the original post. In several cases, a user can choose to use the CLI or GUI, in other cases, for example for some specific tasks, maybe it’s possible to use only one type of interface. Also note that there are other types of interfaces like the API, but in this case, we cannot really consider a user interface. And sometimes the boundary it’s not so clear and easy to be defined, […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesThis year the vExpert 2018 announce has take much time compared with the the vExpert 2016 announce, or also also the vExpert 2017 announce. But finally has arrived, with some changes from the past years (not only for the delay, but also with the list that has been reduced). And also this time I’ve been confirmed as a vExpert. Note that “vExpert” is not a technical certification or even a general measure of VMware expertise, it’s much like an award.
