Reading Time: 3 minutes There is a minor bug in Veeam environments: Veeam Backup and Replication self-signed certificate gets expired in 11 months after installation. The Veeam KB 2806 describe the details for this issue. The certificate is renewed, but Veeam Backup Service still has information about the old one in cache, thus shows the error message.
Reading Time: 2 minutes Hot-add trasport mode is a valuable solution for serveral environment, but is not necessary the fastest (see Slow speed in hot-add transport mode backup) or the best solution. But for some environments (for example VMware vSAN) it’s the recommended approach. But in VMware vSphere 6.5 and 6.7 that can be some issues using hot-add on proxy with a huge number of virtual disks. Note that this issue is resolved in ESXi 6.5 P03 and ESXi 6.7 U1.

Reading Time: 6 minutes Veeam Backup & Replication does not have a native integration with “entry-level” NAS appliance, but there are some different options if you want to configure a Veeam repository on a NAS hardware appliance. The most common option is just to use the CIFS/SMB protocol on the NAS appliance and connect the repository as a network share. But for some NAS appliances there is also the possibility to export a LUN with iSCSI and then you can connect it with a software iSCSI initiator to the Veeam Backup Server and use as “local storage”.

As reported in the Veeam KB 2443, VMware 6.7 Update 1 is actually NOT supported by Veeam B&R and will be supported only with Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 4. Seems that there is major bug in Storage VMotion functionality of vSphere 6.7 when you are using the optional IR feature that allows you to redirect virtual disk updates to the selected datastore.

VMware has confirmed that the increased Hot Add times experienced by some Veeam customers who have installed Veeam Backup & Replication Update 3a and the reason is the latest Virtual Disk Development Kit (VDDK) 6.5 version used in U3a to support also vSphere 6.5 Update 2.

But this guide is only limit to recommend the hot-add transport mode. So you are going to create several Veeam proxies because Veeam Backup & Replication chooses the most appropriate backup proxy to reduce the backup traffic on the VSAN cluster network. Reading Time: 3 minutes Veeam Software has finally announced the availability of the new Veeam Availability for Nutanix AHV, a “Backup & Replication” version for Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV). In this way Veeam extend the supported (on-prem) hypervisors to the three majors: VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V and Nutanix AHV. Considering that also Nutanix it’s multi-hypervisors, the combination of Veeam and Nutanix can give the best. Still there isn’t a native solution for other KVM based hypervisors, but those workloads can be protected with the Veeam Agents.

Veeam has introduced Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 in November 2016, and it became a great success because it’s simple, light, fast to deploy and the restore process remain quite the same of Veeam Backup & Replication with the powerful granular restore.

It does not happen in all cases, and seems more limited for SQL Express instances. But Veeam has described the issues in KB2689 (https://www.veeam.com/kb2689) with also the required fix!
