Backup products and vSphere 6.0 compatibility – Updated

Reading Time: 3 minutes Also some months after the release the new vSphere 6.0, one of the main reason to don’t use in a production environment remain the compatibility aspect. If most of the VMware products it’s fine from this point, it isn’t the same for the 3rd part backup products. One month ago I’ve wrote a post Backup products and vSphere 6.0 compatibility were only few products were available. Now there are some changes in this list.

VMware Horizon – Creating shortcut

Reading Time: 2 minutes Using VMware View was possible set specific shortcuts using the View client CLI in order to automatically open a specific virtual desktop. The CLI has not changed (at least not so much) in the recent Horizon View Client, but starting from version 3.0 there are also new options. The old approach was build a Windows shortcut like this one:

Reading Time: 3 minutes It’s not a secret that there are several changes in enterprise, not only in the infrastructure part, but also on how applications are developed and operated (for example with DevOps), how they’re architected (for example with micro-services apps), and how they’re deployed (for example with Docker and containers). The agility of (public) cloud and the possibility that offer brings new type of applications called “cloud-native” as they’re may or must re-designed for the mobile-cloud era. Those new type of application can completly change the future of enterprise IT and more faster that previous innovations.

Reading Time: 7 minutes The new VMware vSphere 6.0 has so much interesting new features and scalability properties that make interesting for each new environment, but also for existing customers (with an active subscription, so that you can also upgrade your 5.x license keys). But like each new version you have to make some consideration first and especially before starting the upgrade procedure, so be sure to start from the vSphere Upgrade Center, the VMware Product Interoperability Matrix, the VMware Compatibility Guide, but also read the following notes.

This because the code is still on a Nicira web site and is much more restricted compared to other VMware code. Reading Time: 7 minutes If you plan to build a lab for vSphere 6.0 you can use all the approches for vSphere 5.x (see also Building a vSphere 5 lab): usually using a nested environment (or three physical systems, if you have) as a common platform.
