Reading Time: 4 minutesFinally the new Horizon View is now available for the download. It’s the version compatible with vSphere 5.5. To use View Storage Accelerator in a vSphere 5.5 or later environment, a desktop virtual machine must be 512GB or smaller. View Storage Accelerator is disabled on virtual machines that are larger than 512GB. Virtual machine size is defined by the total VMDK capacity. For example, one VMDK file might be 512GB or a set of VMDK files might total 512GB. This requirement also applies to virtual machines that were created in an earlier vSphere release and […]

Reading Time: 3 minutesStarting from the 5.2 version, VMware View is now called VMware Horizon View (according with the new position in the VMware Horizon Suite). But the upgrade path (of the View part) is still quite similar with previous version (see also VMware View 5.1.2 update or VMware View 5.1 upgrade path) and is well described in the Upgrade guide.

Reading Time: 3 minutesI’ve already write a post with the comparison between PCoIP and RDP (PCoIP vs. RDP) and some considerations on how use each protocol in a VMware View infrastructure. Other protocols, like HP RGS (Remote Graphics Software) has been removed (from View) years ago, and protocols from other solutions (like, for example, SPICE) are not included. But now there is also the HTML5 option (Blast protocol) included with the Horizon Suite or with the Feature Pack of Horizon View (see this post on how enable it).

Reading Time: 3 minutesVMware Horizon View 5.2 HTML5 Access is a new way to access your virtual desktop using the Blast protocol. Actually is not integrated in the standard Horizon View package, but you need to download the required packages from the Horizon View Feature Pack section:

Reading Time: 3 minutesDuring the recent VMware Partner Exchange 2013 I’ve got the opportunity to meet and discuss with Scott Bennett, Sales Director Northern-and Southern Europe at Liquidware Labs. I’ve already posted about the latest products release and how their solutions could be interesting for a VDI enviroment. However, it was interesting to talk directly with their vision, proposition, position, but also of their point of view regarding the evolution of virtualization ecosystem in relation to the evolution of VMware and its products (which in some cases go to limit ecosystem market).

Reading Time: 2 minutesVMware has announced the new VMware Horizon Suite: the platform for workforce mobility. Core of the VMware’s End User Computing (EUC) vision it is based on this point: Transform: Simplify desktops, diverse apps and data into centralized services Broker: Manage & Secure centrally and broker services to your workforce by policy Deliver: Empower your workforce with flexible access across devices, locations and connectivity

Reading Time: 4 minutesI’ve already describe the upgrade path to VMware View 5.1, but things change and there are additional patches for this View version (that is currently in version 5.1.2). Of course also HCL may change (with more support) and, for example, recent version of View 5.1 are fully compatible with recent version of vSphere 5.1.
