Reading Time: 3 minutesAs announced some months ago, the new Virtual SAN (VSAN 6.2) will add new data services making this solution more rich that before. Version 6.1 was announced during the last VMworld editions with some interesting features, including a ROBO scenario. But was still limited in data service: better snapshot technologies, better VMFS, but still some limits and no deduplication, no compression, no erasure coding at all.

Reading Time: 2 minutesVMware Virtual SAN (VSAN) 6.1 was announced during the VMworld US 2015 with some new interesting features. Now it’s finally available on VMware vSphere download page. Considering that it’s implemented at hypervisor level, there isn’t a specific download: you have to upgrade (or download) vSphere 6.0 Update 1. VMware Virtual SAN 6.1 increases data protection options for business-critical environments with the new Stretched Cluster feature providing zero-point Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and enhanced VMware vSphere Replication. Seems still a separated products, althougt my hope is that it may included in some vSphere bundle (like was with the VSA). This new version brings a lot of new features and now it’s ready also the business critical applications (version 1.0 was more targeded for ROBO, VDI, DR, testing, … scenarios).
