During our announcement on Aug. 23, one of the announced changes is that new versions of Veeam Endpoint Backup which will be renamed Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. Veeam Agent for Linux 1.0 was already available, and now, after the public beta period, finally, Veeam Agent for Windows 2.0 is now in GA.

Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is built on the extremely successful Veeam Endpoint Backup™ FREE and includes two brand new editions — Workstation and Server — with additional features designed to ensure the Availability of your Windows workloads by providing backup and recovery for physical and cloud-based workloads, as well as endpoint devices that belong to remote users.

This next version of Veeam Endpoint Backup will expand on the current free offering by providing a more robust and enhanced business feature set by adding two new paid editions but also with a FREE offering.

With Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, you get:

  • Enterprise-level backup and recovery: Get complete protection for both workstations and Windows physical servers — even those running in the cloud — including full application awareness
  • Physical backups off-site: Back up Windows-based workloads off site to a cloud service provider through Veeam Cloud Connect
  • Protection of roaming endpoints: Meet RPOs for laptops and tablets outside the corporate network
  • And much more!

Both 64-bit and 32-bit (where applicable) versions of Windows are supported:

  • Microsoft Windows 7 SP1
  • Microsoft Windows 8.x
  • Microsoft Windows 10
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016

This next version of Veeam Endpoint Backup will expand on the current free offering by providing a more robust and enhanced business feature set by adding two new paid editions (workstation or server) but also with a FREE offering.

With the two editions, administrators have the flexibility to pick the appropriate level of functionality based on the protected workload.

The diagram below shows how all major new features of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows 2.0 map to editions – but of course there are many smaller features and enhancements that will be available in all editions, including free edition:
