Veeam released v9.0 Update 1 of its products

Finally Veeam has released on the patches portal both Veeam Backup & Replication 9.0 Update 1 (build 9.0.0.1491) and Veeam ONE v9 Update 1 (build 9.0.0.2088).

For Backup & Replication note that after installing the update, during the first start of the Veeam Backup Service, required modifications will be made to the configuration database automatically to optimize its performance. These modifications may take up to 10 minutes to complete. Please do not reboot the Veeam server, or attempt to stop the service during this operation.

Nutanix Acropolis File Services: not only VM services

Past week, Nutanix has released the Acropolis File Services (AFS): a web-scale native file serving solution built using the same technology that powers Nutanix Enterprise Clouds.

Announced at the last .NEXT Conference, this solution open also to non VM based services and make Nutanix a more complete storage vendor. AFS make possible manage storing and serving unstructured data, like home directories, user profiles, application logs and department shares, with the same Nutanix technologies and approach.

VMware vSphere 6.0 U2 and VSAN 6.2

Finally VMware vSphere 6.0 update 2 is now available on the download site. This mean also the availability of Virtual SAN 6.2, that is included in this upgrade.

Some of the interestening news are:

  • VSAN 6.2: erasure coding, compression and deduplication! See also More data services in VSAN 6.2.
  • VMware Host Client: The VMware Host Client is an HTML5 client that is used to connect to and manage single ESXi hosts. It can be used to perform administrative tasks to manage host resources, such as virtual machines, networking, and storage. The VMware Host Client can also be helpful to troubleshoot individual virtual machines or hosts when vCenter Server and the vSphere Web Client are unavailable.   • vSphere Web Client support: vSphere Web Client now supports Microsoft Windows 10 OS.

DDN Storage is a company that, in more  than 15 years (was founded in 1998), has designed, developed, deployed and optimized systems, software and solutions which enable enterprises, service providers, universities and government agencies to generate more value and accelerate time to insight from their data and information, on premise and in the cloud. It’s one the the leader in the HPC market (2/3 of the top 500 supercomputers run on DDN), the largest private storage company in world, with double digit growth, still profitable and self funded.

During the last A3 Communications Technology Live I’ve got the opportunity to learn more about their solution and their position.
