Reading Time: 2 minutesVeeam has just released the new version of Backup & Replication program with a lot of enhancement and new cool features (and also with a new product edition). Most of the related news are already know (partially I’ve describe some of them in this previous post), now it’s time to test and use them!

Reading Time: 2 minutesAfter one month from the v3.2 announce, NAKIVO has announce the new v4 release (available in 2013) of their Backup & Replication product with several new features. Note also that new edition will be introduced with this new release: Enterprise and Cloud Service Provider editions. Starting from the v3 features, the new key features are: multi-tenancy, self-service, scalability, object recovery, backup verification. For more information join the NAKIVO v4 – New Enterprise and Cloud Editions webinar or 20th August.

Reading Time: 2 minutesAfter some month from the previous release (see the announce of the v3.0), NAKIVO Inc. has announced (on 15 July 2013) the new release NAKIVO Backup & Replication v3.2 that introduce some new features and several optiminization to the existing core features of v3.0. The product remain still based on a web 2.0 (here some screenshoots) almost clear and usable also from small device. But it’s not (yet) integrable with the VMware vSphere Web Client (a web based interface does not directly mean that could be integrated with the vSphere Web Client, that it’s based […]

Reading Time: < 1 minuteRecenltly I’ve got some issue with Storage vMotion due to the “lock” function used by some backup programs. I’ve write about it related with Symantec Backup Exec, but this time was with VMware Data Protector (VDP). Usually, backup programs disable Storage vMotion during the backup process to avoid datastore changes (and issue during the copy, considering that starting from vSphere 5.0 it’s possible use Storage vMotion also on VM with snapshots). But if the backup process fail, some backup programs does not clear this information correctly.

Reading Time: 4 minutesThe current version of Symantec Backup Exec is still not supported with VMware vSphere 5.1, according with the Software Compatibility List (SCL). The full support will be available with the 2012 R2 release and/or with the 2012 SP2 (seems confirmed according with this post, but no official date has been announced yet). The missing support does not mean that does not work, but it’s quite boring because you have a lot of minor issues, some not easy to understand.

Reading Time: 2 minutesThe VCAP-DTD exam is quite similar, in the format, as the VCAP-DCD one, with lot of questions (115 questions!), composed by multiple choice, drag and drop, scenario questions, along with some “visio” style design questions. The total time for this exam is 195 minutes (with the usual 30 min. extension for non native English Countries) that seems much, but could be not enough considering that some questions (scenarios based and “visio”) will take a lot of time!

Reading Time: 3 minutesI’ve got the opportunity to take the VCAP5-DTD exam during the beta period (at the beginning of this year). After a really long period (common in the VMware beta exams, but this time more long that usual), on May 16 I’ve received an email with this sentence: Thank you for taking the VCAP-DTD Beta Exam. We are pleased to inform you that you passed! Congratulations! I’ve not receive yet the score report (was sent by snail mail), but does not matter too much… I’ve pass this exam, that wasn’t so easy.
